"The Imitation Game"

Benedict Cumberbatch and most of the cast were excellent, the story was tripe however - with such huge deviations from the truth that it was almost painful to watch. The film gave the impression that Turing built the Bombe machine in a barn with a few mates, and single-handedly broken the Engima code in minutes once a girl in the pub have given him an idea.

From a review at IMDB
"Most of the film is just nonsense. There is no way that Turing would have been in a position to decide not to save the convoy (or even know that there was one to save). He wasn't responsible for the idea of using standard text in messages as ways into the Enigma settings (which had been done since before the war). The construction of the Bombe machines was a huge exercise involving a team of technicians and parts supplied by external manufacturers, not Turing wiring it up alone in a barn in his shirt-sleeves. It wasn't actually even his idea; the idea of using a machine was brought to him by Dilly Knox from pre-war ideas worked up by a Polish team. Nor could the machine spit out deciphered messages after a couple of minutes. Turing wasn't in charge either, he didn't come up with ideas of using crosswords to find recruits and he wasn't alone in writing to Churchill; several of them signed the letter. Oh yes, and there were several women code-breakers at Bletchley."

I had looked forward to this film tremendously, but left the cinema disappointed

I posted a link to a fact vs fiction page for Imitation Game last week. It seems the only true bit of the film was his name was Alan Turing. ;)

Totall Recall (Recent version)

Ok, liking the British angle and nods to the Arnie version. Haven't seen the end yet, so don't spoil it for me. ;)

I still think they are missing the essential fakery and paranoia of the story, but it's a good ride for a normal audience.

7/10

Slumdog Millionaire.
Seen it before but really enjoyed it. A movie like I haven't seen before (well, except the first time I saw it?)

Kite
Rubbish. Ended up forwarding it after 10 mins until I eventually got to half way and then deleted it.
(PS not to be mistaken with The Kite Runner, which is an excellent film).

Under the Skin with Scarlett Johansson .Utterly spell binding ,not sure what was acted and what was add lib with the interaction with the public. It works mainly because of the setting in Glasgow . You get a bit bored at seeing London.

I'm hearing more and more positives about this so definitely giving it a shot now.

Nice of them to actually film in Scotland, unlike another well known Scottish film...

It was OK. I knew nothing about this movie, not even that's its based on a real life character. I was thinking itll be a more action packed movie, cat-and-mouse-like, but it was nothing like that.

Last Saturday watched All good things(Ryan Gosling and Kirsten Dunst);really good film based on a true story and worth catching if it pops up again on tv,not the happiest of films but well played by the cast esp Gosling and Dunst.
