ditto.... the 90s version, although not a 'true' godzilla film, just another monster movie, is all killer no filler... this new one has far too much filler which i believe actually slows time down

I suppose one viewers filler is another's plot, character development, continuity and building of suspense

I'm on my own Thursday and Friday evening so I will watch both for a comparison based on something other than memories.

Eh, I'm with you Andy, I liked it a lot. At least in part because Godzilla and the other creatures were completely indifferent to the human drama, which is as things should be.

That shot of the HALO jump between the smoke of the city and the cloud may just be the best scene I saw in 2014.

I watched an old Agatha christie film ten little indians. 1965 I think. The acting was so bad it was hilarious. 3/10
I saw that years ago. I don't remember much, but I do remember the 'acting'. There was definitely an era in British films when pretty much all the actors stood out as rep refugees - all enunciation and 'poise' and peculiar mannerisms. Like they weren't actually even trying to act, as such; they were Being Actors.

Watched need for speed last night 3/10 for acting 8/10 for the cars and car scenes.

Also watched 22 jump street which having liked the 1st one wasn't disappointed.

And also Transformers age of extinction I like all the transformer films the special effects are brilliant and this is just as good...I do miss Megan Fox in tight leather trousers though

The new Gozilla is really good. Godfather serious when compared to Pacific Rim though.

I was really disappointed by Pacific Rim. I hope it hasn't heralded the end of Guillermo del Toro's ability to make a decent film.

I actually laughed out loud when the massive robot guys were worried about not having any more ammo, only for one of the characters to yell 'SWORD!' and the arm transformed into, you guessed it, a sword.

I agree that Pacific Rim was crap compared to other serious films by del Torro. I still thought that the effects were stunning, the best part being the battle in Hong Kong. Yes it was really cheesey and the 2 actors out of Sons Of Anarchy were truly cringe-worthy. Still it appealed to the kid in me whereas most modern films leave me cold. I only watched this film because of the director, if you compare it to Pan's Labyrinth/Orphanage it is hugely disappointing, but at the same time the subject matter and the target audience it had to be different, I guess most directors sell out for money in the end (Sam Raimi and Peter Jackson were 2 that really disappointed me being a fan of thier excellent low budget B movies and disliking their crappy big budget Hollywood efforts/snore-fests).

I honestly do not know why any sentient creature would compare Pacific Rim to Pan's Labyrinth .

I saw Skyfall last week, Netflix. Love it. Still a little uncomfortable with this Bond rejuve, but filled with excellence.

Looking forward to many years with a powerful M.

I like the new bond even though he is quite a dark character, and very serious. Good films.

Told my missus our youngest fell asleep while we were watching a movie and she asked which one. I said Zulu, and she said 'Oh yes, that's definitely a film to fall asleep to.' I enjoyed it. Kind of amusing that Michael Caine's first big break was as a toff.
