I honestly do not know why any sentient creature would compare Pacific Rim to Pan's Labyrinth .

Did you not bother reading all of @Cletus Van Damme's post?

Last night I watched Toxic Avenger. Again.

7/10.

Probably my favourite Troma film, though Class of Nuke Em High runs it close.

Payback.

It was terrible. It's been a while since I saw Point Blank (which Payback "reboots") but the Porter character in Payback comes across as an unpleasant sociopath (whereas Point Blank's Walker is much more of an impersonal, indifferent force).

In fact, it was so bad, that I plan to revisit Point Blank at some point, just to check that I've not misremembered the original.

It's a bit of a silly film, there is lots wrong with it. Take the tube train scene, an extraordinarily elaborate stunt where Bond avoids death by hiding behind a pillar while a quite bad model of a train smashes through the station.

Also, the best way to evade capture on the Scottish highlands is to wave a dirty great torch around.

Also a shotgun isn't a rifle.

Also Finney's accent.

Currently watching The Spy Who Loved Me. When I was 9 this was the greatest film ever made.

Watching it now I can't help feeling James Bond would have made a better spy if he didn't tell everyone his name every 5 flipping minutes!

I enjoyed Payback but I like Mel Gibson , I couldn't watch Parker with Jason Statham though which is the same character .

Skyfall is spot on, the new Bond films **** all over any of the Brosnan ones.

Timothy Dalton should've been given a proper go.
Agreed, Dalton was a welcome break from Moore's comedy Bond... they promised us a much darker Bond then, but it's only with the reboot that i feel we actually got the dark Bond... Quantum of Solace was utter pants though (IMO)... and Skyfall's theme song is its only let down... that and 'skyfall' being the least convincing name for a Scottish mansion.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
The searchers with john Wayne. They don't make them like that anymore, and no prizes for guessing why. Seriously, they are films all the family can watch. Nothing complicated. Just straight forward good films. These are the films I grew up on. Cheesy? Hell yes, but enjoyble just the same.

Have you seen the original (Point Blank, with Lee Marvin)?

I do wonder if its skewed my opinion of Payback.

Justifiably so. Point Blank is a classic, Payback is a pale imitation, but most modern reimaginings of films are (Get Carter, I'm looking at you).

@MontyVeda and @welsh dragon will be pleased to know I watched the 98 and 14 versions of Godzilla last night.

One is essentially Jurassic Park set in New York, a passable but ludicrous monster movie that has absolutely nothing to do with Godzilla. The other is a stylish and sensitive reimagining of Godzilla. I will leave it to you guys to decided which is which.

For no reason other than having a couple of hours to kill, I'm about to watch Gladiator again. It is a genuine favourite, and one I suspect I'll never tire of watching mostly because of Joaquin Phoenix turning in his best performance as an absolutely reprehensible villain. It's perhaps a shallow confession, but it does help that every member of the cast is devastatingly good looking, which seems de rigeur for films set in antiquity.

Agreed. Quite racist though, and outrageously sexist. Poor Natalie Wood, and of course Marty was the first Captain Kirk.
