The searchers with john Wayne. They don't make them like that anymore, and no prizes for guessing why. Seriously, they are films all the family can watch. Nothing complicated. Just straight forward good films. These are the films I grew up on. Cheesy? Hell yes, but enjoyble just the same.

The Searchers is absolutely brilliant. An important and thought provoking film, particularly regarding attitudes towards Native Americans.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
Agreed. Quite racist though, and outrageously sexist. Poor Natalie Wood, and of course Marty was the first Captain Kirk.

Your right of course. Quite sexist and racist, but they were a product of they're time and should be watched in that context.

@MontyVeda and @welsh dragon will be pleased to know I watched the 98 and 14 versions of Godzilla last night.

One is essentially Jurassic Park set in New York, a passable but ludicrous monster movie that has absolutely nothing to do with Godzilla. The other is a stylish and sensitive reimagining of Godzilla. I will leave it to you guys to decided which is which.

For no reason other than having a couple of hours to kill, I'm about to watch Gladiator again. It is a genuine favourite ....

each to their own. One entertained me more than the other... simple as that.

...but Gladiator... yikes! That's one film i never want to sit through again

Have you seen the original (Point Blank, with Lee Marvin)?

I do wonder if its skewed my opinion of Payback.

Seen Point Blank years ago but I hardly remember it , I typically don't like remakes if I like the original , if the original is good then the remake never adds anything I find.

dog day afternoon I believe this movie was Pacino's turning point because he was on the wrong side of the law and was the good guy every movie after he is on the right side of the law but is the bad guy

Scream.

I can't remember what I thought of it at the time it came out, but I don't think the years have been kind to it. Lots of films have had the idea of a meta text to them since, and compared to its successors, Scream really bashes you over the head with it. A solid two or three stars on this watch, I think.

Jack Reacher.

I've seen a better film on coffee.

Rosamund Pike's role in Jack Reacher was maybe the worst role for women in the last few years. It's a complete nothing of a part where she stares with bovine stupidity as Cruise pauses in the doorway to utter a crushing revelation, about seven times in the film. It's awful. She's supposed to be a career woman with a high-powered job and the script calls for her to act like a bimbo. Appalling.

NO SPOILERS:

Cruise pauses in the doorway, dramatic music reaches a crescendo:

Cruise: "What you don't realise is....he was already dead!!!"

Pike reacts with a wide-eyed, open-mouthed look that resembles a lobotomy patient. Cruise walks out of the door as fast as his stubby little legs allow.

Dreadful film, shockingly bad script, great actress let down by a sexist and cliched role.

not in the least.

This vexes me. I'm terribly vexed.

Last nights viewing was Green Street 2. Oh dear.

I will guiltily admit to quite enjoying the original, it's a gritty and well paced effort with enough interest to raise it above the average 'Ave it' hooligan film. The sequel is bafflingly awful. Clearly shot for an American audience in an American prison, none of the original cast return and as a viewer you're subjected to little more than an hour or so of bare knuckle boxing. It's no wonder it went straight to DVD.

A generous 2/10, purely because some of the fight scenes were well filmed.
