The Karate Kid. People had been telling me it was better than you might expect for years, so I thought I'd give it a go. I didn't know there was more than one. The one I saw, it turns out, was the remake, with Will Smith's son showing those mean chinkies how it's done after a few weeks of prancing around and lame-brained cod philosophy. What a pile of Krap.
the original is a pile of crap too... the synopsis is it's about a victim of some nasty bullies finally getting his own back, but really, the protagonist is an annoying little git who taunts the big boys once too often and gets a kicking, and we're supposed to feel sorry for him. Instead of Mr Myagi teaching Daniel-son the ancient art of karate, he should have told him to stop being a prick.

not only that... it ends in a tournament where a kick to the face is not allowed, and daniel-son somehow wins the bout by kicking the antagonist in the face.

Killer Tongue. 6/10

Features a 10 foot tongue, nuns, meteorites and stupidity. One of John Rhys-Meyers' earliest roles as a drag queen, who has been transformed from a dyed poodle by the meteorite.

Watch it with friends and beer.
That sounds class.

End of Watch - a cop buddy movie from a couple of years back that I remembered got very good reviews at the time and then seemed to very rapidly disappear from sight. Very good. Kind of like The Wire, but even more so.

Starred Up - good film 8/10
The Rover - not bad 6/10

The Rover should and could have been so much better. I was very disappointed.

Last night I watched The Big Lebowski, for probably the 50th time.

It is absolutely flawless, and hilarious, with an excellent soundtrack to boot. If you've not seen it, do so at the next available opportunity. Every part is impeccably played, but Walter (John Goodman) is a true stand out.

No, but expecting it didn't make it any better to watch.

No, but expecting it didn't make it any better to watch.

True. Although it is probably Emmerich's third best effort behind the camera, behind Independence Day and Universal Soldier. The majority of his efforts have been abject garbage, Godzilla being a particular low-light.

I watched Mad Max and Mad Max 2 recently... still good enough after all these years, and it was a nice surprise to see Sheila Florence in Mad Max 1, best known as Lizzie from Prisoner: Cell Block H...

Mad Max 2 had some great stunts and some seriously silly villians... lots of fun and took me right back to my youth... MM2 was the first pirate video i ever watched, the picture was terrible but the experience was great... I genuinely expected we'd be raided by the fuzz before the film ended

Mad Max (1) and Dawn Of The Dead were the first films I ever watched on VHS at far too young an age for the latter (about 10). I still love them both, modern films don't seem to capture that post-apocalyptic feel the same as these gems did. It's a shame that they are re-making Mad Max as I imagine it will dumbed down for the masses and shite like most remakes are. Then again I enjoyed the loose 2004 re-make of Dawn Of The Dead (not as good as the Romero film), so fingers crossed.

Lizzie out of cell block H brings back memories of Vinegar Tits etc (what she used to call the man-like female screw I think). I used to enjoy Cell Block H, not sure why
