I have to say I do find it quite funny that there were 6 bikes and all the luggage stashed or rather squashed in my back room and I was terrified Tommy’s bike would come out of it damaged.
My eldest came home waking me at 2am because he couldn’t get his house keys to work  and stumbled towards the back room. I walked away back upstairs think “what’s gonna happen is gonna happen...”

Anyone check Tommy’s bike and lightweight wheels this morning?

Bob much appreciated mate, I’m glad some of my neurosis has rubbed off on you! Although it has been noted you never warmed up the buns when I called round ^_^

Dean, I hope Lee is showing you some of his favourite London hang out spots today

I’m off for a Thai massage in a bit. insert innuendo here as you see fit! ^_^

Turns out my shifter wasn't broken, but the outer coating on the cable had rubbed and frayed internally causing it to jam up. LBS had to remove the BB to get to it and replace the cable (said he's seen this before from the type of coated cable they used).

Canyon less than helpful - they wanted me to post them the shifter, for them to then forward on to Shimano for "further investigation", which would obviously have found nothing wrong and left me without a bike in the middle of summer for goodness knows how long (their idea of reassurance regarding timescales was to say that Shimano "normally" turn jobs round in "7-10 days"). They refused to pay for a third party to do any work/investigation.

I know this is the problem with buying direct from someone like Canyon and I accept the lack of dealer margin etc is what makes them such good value for money, but they really should have a better way of dealing with service issues like this in my opinion. Their warrranty specifically excludes cable wear so they'll probably completely wash their hands of this on that basis anyway, but I still think this happening on an internal cable after 9 months/1000 miles to a very well looked after bike is unacceptable.

Anyway, not a MAJOR issue or cost - and I still love the actual bike - but this is the second time I've had to deal with Canyon regarding a problem with the bike (the first being poor service in getting the original cracked frame they sent me replaced) and the second time I've been left very unimpressed.

I've just emailed them this feedback so will let you know if they respond in any way.

That is an odd one. Did you find out exactly where the cable has been rubbing to the point it frayed?

On your front shifter too. It’s the least used of all four of the cables. I had dura ace 9000 and there was a design fault with the routing of the original shifter they produced which caused the cables to fray. So they released 9001 shifters with an improved routing line. I’ve not heard of the same problems with ultegra though.

Not excactly sure but I think it was round the B/B - the mechanic said they've fitted a sleeve to prevent it happening again. It was goretex coated cable that he said caused the problem.

All sorted now - probably back out on the bike tonight. Needed until today to recover from Sunday anyway!

That’s a bit rubbish really. Glad you are up and running now Paul.
It’s a shame because the vet tempting 6.8kg aeroad disc gets a 10/10 in cw today

The thing is, canyon make really good frames. I say this having never ridden one... but both your frame and the aeroad win stages on grand tours amd I always hear how good value they are. Giant pain in the arse with regards the slack customer service though!
