I'm looking ahead to my 50th next year so thinking it's a great opportunity to get some whooshy wheels. Now I'm also doing a kitchen extension so the other half has a tight fist on the purse. So any views on a campag compatible reasonably priced, lightweight carbon clincher, about 45-50mm rims?

Why spend more really £339.00

These were on my bike for ToC 60mm deep u shape profile, DT Swiss hub, sapin flat spokes, just like Zipp, Enve etc

Hey @CXRAndy you still planning to put more video up? I loved the first one and looking forward to more ^_^ :bicycle:

Yes ive loaded a group of segments onto the pc, just need to edit them add music.

Any preference for music, just send me unlocked mp3 files, I'll pm you my email.

It take a while for me to upload to Youtube, we have really slow internet here.

I have done RideLondon 4 times and haven't stopped on any of them. I hydrate really well beforehand - you may have noticed I had a big bottle with me as we queued at the start - and I have 2 large bidons on the bike. On Sunday I still had 1/3 of a bidon left at the end.

Of course, we could do a Froome and get helpers to pass us bottles on the route
I could do that. But I'd have to qualify as a escort rider. I've got the right bike for the job though.

I think the UCI are reading our posts and are afraid of us actually managing to get UCI qualification as they're making it harder! As well as making the route 100 miles next year. they're restricting the number of qualifying places to 100 for each age group - combined across the race and sportive. By comparison, this year 165 qualified from the race and 48 from the sportive in my age group http://www.golazocycling.com/Blog/looking-to-qualify-at-toc-2019/

We are all different, I'm not particularly competitive although I do like to win the occasional sprint at the end of the club ride ;) so it's likely I don't get your perspective, but that's fine, I like differences in people and opinions.

Lots of different types of clubs out there all with different focus. The club I'm in don't TT, don't race etc.. they aren't that serious, now there are some individuals that race and the fast boys average 23 on open roads on a Thursday night trash. I can't stay with them, 20 is enough for me. There is a little formality but mostly it is just a social group ride, learning skills and having fun. We don't drop people unlike some clubs.

I've done rides with the racers and they are a breed apart, I was on the front with one, I was in bits, max HR, he wasn't even trying, I know this as I couldn't talk, but he was giving me great advice of pacing at the time.

I love club riding, but get that many don't.

Agreed!

I’m sure I come off as very opinionated but I was brought up in a house where we sat round a table and basically debated everything... (it’s an acquired taste...).

It’s definitely horses for courses. I can see exactly why the club works for you. You live in a more suburban area, your kids are a little older, and it’s something you can do together with your family which is ace.

For me I like riding in an event every now and then but lots of the time I’m grateful for the solitude. On top of that I have regrants Park. Not everyone’s cup of tea but it gives me group riding whenever I want it.

Also it’s highly likely the clubs in London have a much higher ratio of w@nkers than the clubs in Basingstoke do! I wouldn’t assume some of these guys are nearly as skilled as the guys in your club or lots of other clubs around the country.

It’s funny you mention the velodrome. The missus bought me an introductory session months ago but it’s still unused...

I’d go tubs or tubeless kip.

This isn’t totally true Andy. Higher priced wheels offer more than just better marketing, especially clincher / tubs as opposed to disc wheels. Firstly brake tracks have come on massively amongst campag, zipp, enve etc. They brake better in the wet and they don’t delaminate so easy when hot. This isn’t just marketing hype. I have Planet X 50mm tubs which are Chinese import rebranded wheels. And I have zipp and lightweight tubs about the same depth. I’ve also had Reynolds tubs. I can honestly tell the difference in terms of braking and stiffness. Don’t get me wrong. You’ve got 60mm wheels. They’re going to be stiff. You ride tubs, they’re going to roll nice. And you have disc, so you don’t have to worry about the brake track.

But.... if you borrow a set of my wheels you will notice the difference. The money side is of course subjective. You might not think it’s worth paying more for slightly better performance. But there is a performance difference there. And of course they can also be a vanity purchase if you want a particular name on the side.

Kip it’s your 50th. Hasn’t it got to be boras?
