I think the UCI are reading our posts and are afraid of us actually managing to get UCI qualification as they're making it harder! As well as making the route 100 miles next year. they're restricting the number of qualifying places to 100 for each age group - combined across the race and sportive. By comparison, this year 165 qualified from the race and 48 from the sportive in my age group http://www.golazocycling.com/Blog/looking-to-qualify-at-toc-2019/

Where you getting the stats from mate? Any idea how close I was?

tried jersey on - who would have thought i was a small !^_^
to all those who did the toc - i know there is all the "being aware" going on (being in a big group ) but did it compare for effort in zwift ? just to give me an idea of what to aim for
i done a similar ride yesterday - but shorter , very flat , but even though wind was behind me i dont think i could get 23 mph for 100

I'm looking ahead to my 50th next year so thinking it's a great opportunity to get some whooshy wheels. Now I'm also doing a kitchen extension so the other half has a tight fist on the purse. So any views on a campag compatible reasonably priced, lightweight carbon clincher, about 45-50mm rims?
ive got campag bullet that i like but just got some hunt carbon and put tubeless on and i think i like them better - think they are only 35 or 40 mm and guess its tubeless that make them faster but definitely don't suffer as much in the cross winds as the others

Lee have you done one of those long rides in Zwift with a pack of say 5+ riders? The speed is about right in Zwift compared to road. The effort, well I would say very similar, you have to keep close and directly behind a rider to get the best real draft. You can't let more than a few yards appear especially if the pace suddenly jumps. Zwift you can see the watts of others, the only warning is a sudden gap. I think you have massive endurance Lee and if you kept an eye on the pack in close you would be fine. My fastest solo ride was 15 miles at 22 mph with a tailwind. My fastest club ride over 70miles had been 19.3mph. ToC 21.3mph, could of been a little quicker had I not stopped and left my group which was a decent size say 20 riders. Try a few club runs, Andy L we know lives near you and has club rides, He did ToC last year @ 21.5

Honestly, it compared really well. I smiled at one point because I could have been on Zwift but for the fact I was quite hot, one of my eyes was watering and my glasses wouldn’t stay perched properly:laugh: HR and perceived effort much the same on a long race such as the worlds. Visceral impact is of course different. And the draft! Great to be carried, though you have to work not to fall off the back and man, the corners. Just like Zwift everyone sprints out of the corners! You have to work or boom.

there is a club about a mile away that have groups 23+ , 21-22 ,18-20 and others , i went out on a social ride with them but got fed up with the constant shouting at every little thing like car back ,front etc - i know it has to happen but if anyone was nearby i could understand why they think we are a bunch of weirdos
i have said it before - kipster was a bloody good wheel to follow - dont think i heard him once but he let me know everything going on in front

He would do all right. He kept up with me at over 10mph.

Just had a look and in the 35-39 category

3:22:45 Tommy finish

3:14:22 Slowest Sportive qualifier (21st)

3:13:05 Slowest Race qualifier (85th)

Back of fag packet calc, average speed of ~24.5mph to qualify, but its likely to be tougher next year!

Its a try out to gauge your pace and group skills. If you can hang in the 21-22 group no problem, then TOC will be ok aswell.

In my category (55-59) the slowest qualifier was 3:34:02. I did 3:36:42 so was 2mins 40secs off.

I'm a bit confused about next year's regs. Does it mean the field size is restricted to 100 in each category in the race and 100 in each category in the Sportive - which would mean 50 qualifiers per category)? OR does it mean the overall qualifiers are restricted to 100 in each category?
