In my category (55-59) the slowest qualifier was 3:34:02. I did 3:36:42 so was 2mins 40secs off.

I'm a bit confused about next year's regs. Does it mean the field size is restricted to 100 in each category in the race and 100 in each category in the Sportive - which would mean 50 qualifiers per category)? OR does it mean the overall qualifiers are restricted to 100 in each category?

I read it that the first 100 in each category qualify.

It's a difficult decision whilst in the moment to try that bit harder in the early stages to hold someone who is faster and possibly burn a few matches doing so and maybe have nothing left later or be conservative and pace it, decisions

:reading:

I was thinking of the dropped chain on the corner where I lost my bonkers fast paced group. They would have carried me to glory:biggrin:

ToC Chrono to the left, my ride around the local lake to the right. So similar, even had a hill about the same size.
Except I used the Chaingang jersey, no TT helmet, gloves or shoe covers. I even forgot to wear my special sunglasses with no top frame, so I had to have my head in the wind for the most of the ride, to be able to se what was in front of me.
Can't believe how much the difference in surface texture affected the speed. Must have been at least 1.5 kph avg.

I'm sure I'm mentioned before Lars, how poor the surface is on our Local TT course. It's like riding over thousands of pebbles. Make no wonder my fat tyres do so well in absorption of these bumps . Local fast lads reckon 5km/h difference in speed on super smooth to rough

That is amazing. Same watts and cadence. Maybe it's the Cyclechat Jersey not the rough roads.

We need to come and ride in Denmark! I was thinking on my ride last night how much worse most of the road surfaces are round here than even the road surface in Cambridgeshire, which I thought was relatively OK!

So looking at your two rides, all the aero TT gear you used in ToC did was compensate for the poor road surface! What Psi do you run in your tyres Lars? I wonder if the rougher road surface at the ToC meant you would have benefited from lowering th tyre pressure a bit from what you usually use on the smoother roads at home? Or maybe you already thought of this?!

I think the 100 number is for the juniors. 400 for men’s race.

I was miles away from qualifying! Wowza. That’s massive. It’ll prob be slower next year with added hills and mileage but even harder overall...

I actually put in 1 bar less and the latex tubes normaly does a good job absorbing rougher surfaces.

Where you getting that from mate? Just says places limited to 100 in each age category across the race and sportive in this article? - http://www.golazocycling.com/Blog/looking-to-qualify-at-toc-2019/

Funnily enough, this limit of 100 qualifiers might not affect your chances too much Tommy, as only 106 qualified from your age group under this year's rules anyway (85 from the race and 21 from the sportive). My age category had a lot more riders though, so it will be MUCH harder (i.e impossible!) for me to qualify next year as the qualifiers from my age group will be more than halved.

Sorry I thought Norris was quoting the amount of entrants and I think I saw the numbers I quoted in an early bird entrants email I got yesterday. I didn’t realise we were talking qualifying spots.

It’s super tough to qualify. I suppose it should be (I say this a little begrudgingly...)

It’s good for my head though I think, aiming for something with a long term goal. My cycling has been badly hampered this year with injury which has made getting out sometimes feel like a bit of a chore rather than fun. I can’t wait for the Pyreneese but I could be in much better shape I guess. I don’t think there’s even a remote chance of qualifying next year to be honest but we’ll definitely be more prepared next time!
