It’s a little known but true fact that Chris Rea did work as a commercial shipping pilot, however he was asked to step down after several near misses and incidents, the latest being running the Napoli aground in the English Channel, then swerving to avoid a baby dolphin whilst piloting the Costa Concordia, the last straw being getting the Ever Given stuck in the Suez Canal, he is known as Dinger at Lloyds of London due to the amount of times it’s bell was rung due to his accidents, but he is affectionately known as Uncle Albert in the commercial shipping industry
