Annoying thing for today
actually annoying all year round but at this time of year it ramps up

Couples - clearly married - going round the supermarket in such a way that the husband is pushing the trolley and HAS be be just behind "the wife" - is he stops to allow someone through then she turns round and looks annoyed
Clearly she can get through smaller spaces but this doesn;t worry her - he should be right behind her at all times

basically "the husband" is treated as having to be exactly where his wife wants him - he is controlled by " the wife" - presumably because husbands are men and men cannot be trusted with shopping

SO basically all sexist 1950 style concepts of what men and women are for

but doing it at the is time of year - in droves - just makes supermarket aisles even more jammed up than normal
especially M&S round here because the aisles are narrower than in the big places

Sometimes I see a husband trying to be polite and let people through and getting tutted at by his wife

as you can probably guess - these stereotypical couple are all older middle aged or older - and generally quite well dressed
they remind me of some of the old teachers at my first proper teaching job - an old independant girls bording school that had recently become a state school but retained the staff and their attitudes
most sexist place I have ever worked!!!

Wait until the parents have the kids pushing the trolley's, then you reach another level.

That's OK
When I take the grandkids to Tesco then the oldest pushes the trolley and te middle one has the hand held scanner - a task he takes very seriously (mostly!)
WHen the oldest is given the trolley to push she is always specifically told that she is NOT allowed to use it to kill her brother

They behave pretty well when given these tasks

I missed out the youngest - he is a work in progress!!!

What do you tell them with regards other people in the supermarket though. Are they "fair game" whilst both parents fill the trolley?

Well
A lot of people seem to get scanned
partly because the oldest (before the smaller ones were born) once scanned me and it actually worked!
it did say "product not found" - but the kids find it hilarious!

They don;t crash into other people - partly because I keep an eye on them!

Okay, another for the supermarket rant; invariably occurring at the checkout - !
Folk; usually lasses, who insist on holding their cellphone in one hand and proceed to unload a very full trolley with the other hand rather than putting their phone in pocket / handbag and using both hands to unload.
At Aldi / Lidl; those who instead of doing what is preferred - bagging up on the provided shelf after they've been through the checkout, they load their trolley back up at said checkout, often carefully into selected bags already in the trolley ( 'No dear, that one goes into the green bag' ) and then wait to be told how much they've spent BEFORE searching for their method of payment. :cursing:

If we are still doing supermarkets...

I find it irritating that the self-checkouts at my local Aldi object to the weight of my empty rucksack so I have to get an employee to clear a warning every time before I can proceed. I know that the system is designed to catch people sneaking items through without scanning them but it is still a pain.

Same at mine, but on the bright side, this minor inconvenience does help to stop the thieving ratbags who's actions are part of the cause of increased prices.
But just to add to the fun, at my local Aldi the S/S tills on the left work left to right, and the ones on the right work right to left - !

Still on Supermarkets. Our Local Waitrose has Self Service tills that presume their customers aren't dishonest. I can put my open rucksack on the floor next to the till, scan my items and place them directly into it without any " Please place item in the bagging area "

Why does that annoy you?

Could be even more fun this year as Chr***mas Eve is on a Sunday this year and, unless anything has been changed specially, it means much reduced opening hours for supermarkets.

I'll just pop out on Friday and pick up a few bits and leave the idiots hoards to it for the rest of the weekend.

Yes we were thinking of going late tonight or early tomorrow. Big Tesco is only open 10-4 on Sunday. I went past it yesterday and the queue of cars must have been 1/2 a mile long, so I didn't bother going near it

I'm not sure which one it is but there is a supermarket near here that has a "I do not want to bag this item" option
You do have to select it after every item - but it I go shopping on my bike it is helpful as I usually have a backpack with me

Problem with most self serve tills
I put the scanned items on the bagging area. Pay and then pack them into my rucksack next to the bagging area rather than putting the rucksack on it.

I do this with my big shop as well. For some reason it doens't like the weight of 3 bags for life, so in order to avoid it I just place all my loose scanned items onto the bagging area and then pack into bags once I've paid. You do sometimes get an annoying prompt to "please remove your shopping" but at least I don't have to wait for a member of staff

I dont like the actual Xmas dinner or variations of it either. I have this battle with myself every year whether to have nibble of it or to have something more low key like a Jacket potato and salad.
