Today's Retirees Shopping Quiz:

One of our leather sofas needs the two cushions that you sit on re-foamed.

It is a large sofa for two (more like a traditional 3 seater sofa).

Reasonable quality (£3k, 12 years ago).

How much to have this done?

No idea, but I'll guess that its almost cheaper to buy a new sofa.🤔

This can be a mistake if one has a quality sofa that one's comfortable with. We made this mistake a long time ago. We had a set of two very good quality sofas and an armchair. We baulked at the £3000 quote to recover them. The replacement sofas we bought for +/- £1500 are good, but nowhere near as good as those we had.

A definite mistake.

Same here. We had a really good quality Chesterfield. Decided, instead of having it refurbished we would replace. Not wise, in my opinion.

We had a message from Welsh Water advising that the repair has been completed but it may take 48 hours for the water supply to be restored to normal as the network is 900 kms long with 13 water pools. The biggest one is the size of 9 Olympic swimming pools.
Good work by the Welsh water team.

Was £40 per cushion(24" X 30"), with a two foam construction, over ten years ago. Decided to buy the foam and make the cushions myself. Half the price.

I can’t either. Bloody pain. I should be eligible for the state pension on my birthday which is 5th May so just waiting on the letter notifying me and then I will either have to claim by phone or ask for a form to be sent out.

Yup - we have 2 lazy boy recliners - the foam under the seats we use all the time constantly needs pulling back into position
I looked at the cost of re-doing the foam and it is cheaper to buy 2 new sofas

these ones will go on Freecycle ot go to a charity shop

Yes - they did well
apparently the break was under a river and the river was in full flow so they had to build a coffer dam across it and divert it
then dig down to the pipe and repair it

I was interested because the house I lived in before I moved here would have been affected

and also I was interested in the "coffer dam" thingy as I was looking at how they are fixing the canal breach on the Bridgewater canal the otehr day and they are using one on that
(I cycle along part of that canal so I was interested!)

anyway - looks like it will take them 48 hours to refill the system - shows how serious it was

apparently they have been trucking bottled water down from Scotland!!!
