Ouch!

Good morning. We have been in Croatia and got home yesterday. A rather lovely country though I can't pretend we saw much of it. The nearest small town/large village was Starigrad. 25ā° most days, some rain at night, shorts and T-shirt all day.

This was an activity holiday resort. Neilson Holidays. I was impressed. Sailing, kayak, paddle board, windsurfing, cycling, tennis, pickleball, loads of yoga, pilates, very well equipped gym, etc. Mrs P and our friends played a lot of tennis and did some water based stuff. My shoulder injury prevented me joining in but I was very content to use the gym, join some classes and ride a bike!! First time in 14 weeks. A big moment. A touch nervous but it felt very good. As good as an MTB can feel to a 70 year old roadie. šŸ¤£

I used to go on Neilson holidays - and with the same group in their previous incarnations before they went up market
They were always great - and had great equipment
I was into sailing and windsurfing in those days and the equipment was amazing

Re side of a hill and house insurance.

Every time we change provider we have to explain that just because we live on the side of the hill does not mean it is sliding down the hill! The foundations are built straight onto bedrock.

Also. The river a few hundred feet from the house does not mean we will get flooded at some stage. It lies in a wide rock gorge some 80 feet deep and the top of the gorge is at least 30' below house level.

Providers have been known to get Into a terrible fret about these things...

I used to live in Bangor in North Wales - house was on top of a very solid hill
but an area at the bottom was near an old river that ran through pipes
and the pipes were once old and broken and flooded a low lying area
so the area was flagged as a flood risk

so companies refused to insure us and some gave a massive premium due to excessive risk of flooding
to get to our house you had to go up a long hill that was cut into solid rock and was so steep the Tour de France might look at it and wonder if that was a bit much!!!

and if the area at the bottom flooded it would have to be higher than a nearby university tower block to even get within 100 yards of our house!!!

Insurance data can be a bit inprecise!!

I am on a WhatsApp group of people who went to the same school as me - and in the same year

it is there to liaise about a meet up in a month or so

one of them has put up a few photos of the school that he took on a visit today

everyone is horrified that in spite of there being several images of the kids in the quads (several - it was "one of those schools" - so quite a bit of ground around a full sized cricket pitch!)
AND NOT ONE OF THEM WAS PLAYING FOOTBALL WITH A TENNIS BALL

bloody hell

this explain why English football has gone downhill over the year
the expertise needed to kick a tennis ball accurately into a goal from range and at all angles is clearly a required skill for international play!!!

Apparently British Gas have told people that they should run their boilers for 15 minutes every few weeks to prevent problems over the winter

i.e. in cold weather

err - don;t really think that will be a problem if it is cold
maybe it hasn;t occurred to them but we have the damn thing so we CAN use it in cold weather
I don;t think SWMBO will have the slightest problem making sure it gets used for that amount if time

anyway - here is the link - sorry about the paper - but like to keep up with whatever is going to end the world this week

Nice to know, that with the odd exceptions, you're all tucked up in bed, asleep.
