Just got home from the whist drive. We won. Again. It's been suggested we should be handicapped next time. People kept saying "of course you play Bridge, don't you." Well that's true.
The reason we won is my partner and I followed the very basic strategies:
Return your partner's lead
Second player plays low
Third player plays high
Etc
It's a really fun evening, I always enjoy a whist drive. I'm always surprised many people don't know the fundamentals.

Oh yes famous for putting plain hardboard on decorative doors and staircases to made them look modern . Oh and co inventer of the mirror dinghy 😀

Sorry I am being rather dim . Surely the farther you have to travel the more important it is you can get in when you get there , so having a guaranteed slot is a good thing ?
So if I go to our tip, I book my time for let’s say 9.30 am , I don’t have to be there dead on 9.30 ( but even if I was a little early I would still be let in ) what I am doing is booking a half hour slot from 9.30 to 10 am and I am though the tip in minutes.
While before we had this system , if i went to the tip on a Saturday or Sunday if would take me 35 to 50 mins to get though the tip because of the huge queues .
There is no way I would ever want to go back to the old system now . 😀
