I have no intention of rushing, don't worry.

When you realise that you are old enough to be the father to people in their '20s'

Also, you realise that you have just wasted the last 20 years of your life due to the combined damage of the first 20 years. Sad really.

When do I get a break and life gets better?

My father said he knew he was old when he had a son getting an old age pension.

Life doesn't get better because of age, but at least there is less of it left.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
at 100 % pace at work on most jobs just to keep pace with the company target set for each job .I used to be able to beat those easily but now my aches/ pains and general wear and tear are overtaking my overall fitness .Company ageing work force policy introduced a few years back equates to there not being enough less demanding jobs so keep up or look elsewhere.

My heyday was around 25 to 45, after that I was really struggling to do what I used to at the speed I used to do it.

Eventually I accepted defeat and got out, but as @simongt alludes, there is a balance to be struck as I look at my forearms now and they are like deflated balloons. That said, I had muscles when I needed them and had a use for them.
