Is that your tent in the white bag.

I've just upgraded my tent bag to a dry bag which will keep it dry.

I could also put my sleeping Matt in it too freeing up pannier space!

Man I need another tour and I've only been back a week!!

Yes the tent (tarptent moment) and neo air sleep mat are in there - It's a 30 litre Alpkit Gordon so I've got a functional rucksack for side trips* on foot .
I wrap it in a trash compactor bag to keep the worst of the road muck off, then bungee it on the rack..

*Errigol was scenic, it just a bit cloudy at the summit..

Sorry no trains visible from here 😇, but you can just about see the sea.

Having the alpkit bag available also means I can take weight off the bike and carry heavier stuff inside that separately if I need to do the dreaded guards van, or cupboard 'hang'

I knew I had a shot to show this - the number on this one doesn't have a triangle so the cycle storage area was at the rear. I don't know if any of the other companies use this method.

I really like that transport for Wales (and the NI trains iirc) has a really big bike symbol on the side so its very easy to spot as the train comes in.
..
And easy walk on and simple side stowage of bike with a seatbelt ..💞
I hate having to 'undress' or hang my bike - 😕

Someone usually pops up to give a bit of extra heft with the lift- but having to do that really adds to the stress of journeying with a loaded bike on a train.

The Southern Region used triangles to mark which end of a unit the luggage/parcels accommodation was.

And also what end was powered with the 'Thumpers'.

Anyway, some Scotrail units, i.e. the class 385s', have a bike symbol on the cab end to show what end has bike accomodation.

That's going to make the Ipswich bound passenger train a bit late as it runs up the right hand track!

Edit - the one on the left will now sit there on tick over for about 20 minutes until the passenger train and a further 2 freight trains have gone up the line.

Pretty sure I saw that blue white and red 66 at Mossend recently, but I can't remember the number.

Also, the other the black 'Medite' one (or whatever it is this week)?

There are Several Flying Moneypits on the UK's railways. I'm guessing you'r referring to the Big Green One with controversial Smoke Deflectors

Several? The Crashing Scotsman is head and shoulders above all others!

I was thinking primarily of the great maroon fleet that is maintained at great expense for when a Windsor wants to travel anywhere.

That's the Royal Train... And the Royals are probably more German/Greek anyway.

That said, there is (or was) The Flying Scotsman train service on the ECML, ironically operated by modern day LNER... But... Anyhoo... 🤔😆

So, to confuse things a little, The Flying Scotsman loco crashed into the coaches of The Royal Scotsman, not The Royal Train... At a station served by the operators of... The Flying Scotsman service!
