Comfy armchair to one person & a plank to the next
The folder is really coming in to its own for this new fangled urban-ish lifestyle I'm leading, and I'm wondering if I'll ever get either of my other two remaining bikes out again.
Luggage capacity is the main thing that limits my folding use. Can't put a rack bag on the back else my clown feet kick it all day and I've yet to find panniers that fit (I even have a restricted choice on most typical UK touring bikes, but Dutch-style are fine). Putting too much on the front pizza rack affects steering and anyway, the front rack load limit is fairly low.

How do others carry stuff on non-B folding bikes? Is it mainly spendy folder-specific luggage?

I've got a rack on mine, but I only use a Topeak bag on a QR mount. Panniers would doubtless have my size 11 Doc Martens (oxblood red, natch) whacking them.

There is the front luggage block, but I'm one of those riders that doesn't mind a rucksack. On a r0iode I sweat like Philip Schofield at a boys school prom night anyway, and having a bag on my back does little difference.

People do load up their folders and tour, particularly Bromptomists. That's a bit OTT for me, but I've been all over the UK on the train with my ID9 and the rucksack manages enough porn mags and kleenex changes of clothes etc for a ccouple of days.

I think you can get rear luggage that clamps to your seatpost.

You can get various racks, but their weight limit is fairly low - similar to the Brompton front rack.

Or you can go for one of those bikepacker type bags. Various options at different price points. But the one below is from Amazon at £35

It looks like the Intercity range is no more...

Somebody asked to be reminded what folding bike I had recommended to him a few months ago. I just went to the Halfords website to check the latest price and there is no sign of them!

I'll keep an eye out on eBay for one for him.

Looks like I have inherited a Dahon Birons folder, don't think it has moved for a few years.

I have seen it from a distance IE 6 foot as way too much junk in front of it so once the rest of the junk has gone i will report back .

Xootr Crossrack. Fixes to the seatpost and carries one pannier - we’ve used it on both my Bike Friday and Mrs F’s Airnimal. Lovely bit of kit but sadly out of production I think.

The Xootr Crossrack is no longer available, and hasn't been available for the last few years. Vincita had their own version, which has been sold out also. This item is no longer, unfortunately, available.

I had the chance of a bargain ID9 on eBay. I could have got it for a Buy It Now price of a mere £230 but got greedy and bid just £201 for it. I got auto-outbid by the winner who got it for £206!

I am going to keep my eyes open to see if I can get an ID9 for around £200 or an ID8 for around £150.

They do come up but the problem is that most of them are collection only so it would have to be somewhere that either I could easily get to from Todmorden, or in the SW where my sister would be prepared to drive to.
