I tell you what else annoys me - ties with a short sleeve shirt. No no no no no! That's just so nafftacky. Short sleeve shirts are a casual item and should be worn as such.

And brown shoes with a blue suit really grinds my gears. I recently attended a wedding where the groom - an utter bellend - and his chums were all thus attired and it took Mrs D's best efforts to prevent me having a bout of apoplexy. I mean, whatever next? Pin stripe suits without bowler hats?

@Accy, this is for you to view. It confirms your statement regarding pocket squares.

In Australia, it was perfectly acceptable business attire to wear short sleeves and a tie. In fact more or less everyone wore short sleeves shirts (not me, a pom, obviously) with tie , but the next stage was to wear them with quite smart tailored shorts, and bizarrely long socks and smart shoes. It was a minority thing, but nevertheless considered smart business dress. I suspect it's less of a thing these days (30 years on)

Kinky! I guess that's why there is so much thigh-slapping going on among wearers of lederhosen.

Is that the same as monkey spanking?

A story...

Many years ago I bought Mini D a toy monkey. She would have been maybe 6 at the time. Anyway, I have this terrible problem in that at moments of great import the Devil makes me do bad things. This was one of those moments, and when Mini D asked me what her new soft toy was called I said "Spank." She look suspicious, but accepted it.

A few days later my Mum came to visit and Mini D came running down the stairs waving her new toy while shouting, "Nanny, Nanny, Spank the monkey!!!" I have never seen so many emotions simultaneously jostle for position on a human face as they did at that moment on my Mum's fizzog.

Both have 'regimental' headbands. I do prefer the No 1 to the No 3, but I'd like to know what regimental significance there is for both headbands. Maybe our resident ex HM Forces @Drago knows, or any of you for that matter. 🤔

There are a number of them here https://www.regimentalshop.com/collections/regimental-panama-hats

None of the ones shown are either of those, but if you click on the drop down to the left, it gives a long list of regiments (not all of which have hats or hat bands), showing the colours in their ties and various other bits of kit.

I got down the list as far as Fleet Air Arm without finding a match for those.

I'm not convinced those are actual regimental colours, but are "Regimental style" - I think they would say which regiment if they were actual regimental colours.

£58.99 without a regimental headband.

Yet 30 quid more for one with a regimental headband!
