I recorded the Newcastle game to watch after my wife went to bed - I then slept most of the evening on the floor in front of the fire as she watched her stuff - then all of a sudden she said out loud, "oh don't listen" which woke me up and the the newsreader said "and Newcastle won 2 - 0"

can't be arsed to watch it now

I think we should set up a Gofundme to buy this poster a chair 🙂

Wish they would book players for attempted cheating. Shot misses the goal and immediately tries to get a corner⁰.

Not sure how they could do it but the amount of blatant cheating and dishonesty by players who are clearly in the wrong, that goes unpunished isn't right.

If referees are held to task on every single decision they make in a match, so should players.

I was having the same discussion with people over Christmas. We were watching a game where a player claimed for a corner knowing full well they had touched it last. And the ref gave a corner.

My solution was that post match the matter is reviewed and players found to be deliberately lying get awarded a point, if they reach 10 points they get a ban. Same for diving and other nonsense.

It would give the ref for more of a chance to make the right decision.

The issue arises when a player genuinely believes that the throw/corner did come off an opposition player, but in fact it came off them on review. Did that player act dishonestly - I'd say no but you can't tell someone's honest mistake or blatant cheating.

Already games are fully dissected post match in a studio with multiple slow mo angles and analysts giving their 'expert' opinion on big calls after watching an incident half a dozen times. If they're going to be critical of refs decisions, I would only give the 'experts' in the studio one go in real time at coming to a decision - just like the ref would have (aside from VAR interventions - which to me have ruined the beautiful game).

Worth a watch even knowing the score. It got quite funny in the second half when Arsenal seemed determined that they only wanted to score from a set piece, which I know they're rightly very proud of just now but still.

Yes, I am not a football fan, but, I watched it, mainly because on Friday, three of the four or five drinking pals are "Toon" supporters and will no doubt be droning on about it. I have to admit, I enjoyed it, and, my wife (a football hater, especially if it displaces her "soaps") was jumping up and down and shouting. ;)

Ask them what they'd accept for Isak from Arsenal who are after him.

The "wisdom" around my office seems to be £75m plus Saka, Gabriel and a hefty sell on clause.

He might fancy a move though...and submit a transfer request ;)
Reckon they'll end up buying a striker from elsewhere in Europe though

Absolutely, VAR should be able to retroactively issue a red card for blatant cheating, especially such as going down like they’ve been shot when there is minimal or no contact.
