I like the colour but not for the wheels.

I have to go to Huddersfield in the morning, ferrying a few ladies, in conjunction with 'senior management' (she's taking 3 in her car too)
Whilst they're there, I'll have some free time, so.......
I might go here, for a look at the stock; https://www.landrovercentre.com

Daughter, & myself were there last March (4 images)

(and a look at the glorious railway station too!)

With due regard to the above posting of mine, I had a look at the Land-Rover Centre, but it was closed
So, through the fence…

The Stage 1 has dropped considerably in price, since our last visit!!

Hmm, I wonder how much this is?
That's the model that I had, & sold in March 2010

They've always been the "I Saw You Coming" of used Land Rover sales
Plus, Simmonites

I used to go to the 'LRC' just to look at RR #001
(sold a few years ago, for close to £100,000)

The Stage 1's aren't all that. People get excited about the thought of a Rover V8 but they're emasculated to 90 odd BHP. They were more of a trial for the forthcoming Ninety and One Ten rather than a serious model in their own right.

Dealers get excited by the headlines, not really understanding that those into their Landies know they aren't all that to get excited over.

This one has been modified, which is all very nice and jolly but restricts the potential market even further. The dealer was seriously optimistic with the starting price.

Why would the V8 be 90bhp when the P6 had 160bhp irrc?
A 3.9 or 4.6 would be nice in a 90 or 110! 🤔👍

P6 was about 135 (I had one), SD1 about 155 in cooking trim with carbs.

I don't know why the engine was derated for the stage 1, but it assuredly was...

https://www.stage1v8.org.uk/tech/Factory_Spec_Frame.html

IIRC it was a big drop in compression ratio and smaller Stromberg carbs instead of SUs. Possibly done to make it more tolerant of lower quality fuel when used abroad, but that's just a guess.

I don't know where I got 160 just remember one variant being similar to my d5 I had at the time 163bhp.

Suggests it's 161....

They were restricted, due to factory fears about giving them the full performance of the V8
As you well know, over the years, since the (ex-Buick 215ci) V8 had become available (due to crashes/etc…) innumerable owners had put it into various Series Landies
Some were sensible, & uprared the brakes when using it in a 80”/86”/88”
Others less so intelligent
Back then, Solihull had a very close relationship with the various enthusiasts/owners clubs, so knew of the risks, & potential bad publicity if their was a spate of crashes of 160BHP Landies!!!

The factory did experiment themselves, as a few V8 88” models were built

The above model was an absolute nut & bolt rebuild for someone
It was a magazine feature a few years ago, after the rebuild, but repainted ‘Limestone’
The ‘Russet Brown’ is the original factory colour, from what l recall
I think l might still have the magazine?
