We currently have a 2.0D Passat and a 1.5D Captur and were looking at part-exing them both and getting one newer car. Only a smaller Diesel SUV style suits us so I did a load of "research" online. The shortlist came down to a 19/20 3008. It ticked all the boxes but when delving in further a lot of people were poo-pooing the Peugeot for reliability. We then started to look at the Ford Kuga until a friend said her ex-mobility Kuga was in the garage with DPF issues.

We've decided to keep the Captur and sell the Passat. £15-£20k is an awful lot to shell out on a car when we can make do with our old one (which is a 2014 with 60kish miles). Also looking at the new VED rates was surprised to see that nearly all of the 1.5D and above are now £190/year. The only exception was I think the 1.6D Kia, but can't remember.

Anyway, it seems that all of the modern Diesels now are being so throttled with anti-emission stuff that they are now a liability to own. In contrast, my partners Captur does not have Adblue system and only sees a motorway trip once in a blue moon but has never had the DPF light flash on in 9 years of ownership

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
I've managed to buy something I never thought I'd be able to. I won't pick it up until 1 March (because residual value, although these currently *appreciate* when you drive them off the forecourt) but it is here.

Is it an SUV? Not really. It's what SUVs evolved from.

I have to change my car soon, probably in the summer and I want one of those but the price is rather OUCHY. Do you like it?

I used to have a soft top Vitara JLX
I loved it.

I liked it but didn't love it. In the end my fiancée decided to trade in her earlier (rare) auto Jimny and I bought it from her, selling the newer one. The fuel consumption is tragic* with the 4-speed auto, as it relies on the torque converter a lot, and it's unbelievably slow compared to the latest one, but it's more fun.

*on a good 200-mile run yesterday with little traffic and not exceeding 60mph much, it scraped 33.5mpg. In summer you might see 36mpg with a tailwind. There is nothing wrong with it; the average mpg owners get is 31mpg!

Stock Photo.

The owner downsized from a Hyundai Tucson as they felt it was too large for them. When shopping for a replacement we hadn't heard of the Stonic but they liked it, it drove well so they bought it. It's based on the Rio so is lower than you think but it's very well equipped. If I had the money it would be on my list as potential for next car.

P.S. Stonic apparently is meant to be an amalgamation of Stylish and Iconic, ill let you make your own minds up!

The Kia Stonic has been traded for a 2022 Vauxhall Mokka. Complaints so far seem to be limited to that the heated steering wheel doesn't get as warm as the Stonic. Personally I think this Mokka is a big upgrade looks wise on the old model Mokka which looked like a melted Nissan Juke.

I'll miss the Stonic, it seemed like a bit of a niche but good car, but the owner is happy with the Mokka so far.
