Cracking a solo.
You think I'm "vain"?
Youre quite clearly goading.......
Which is fine because people with an open mind see you and your kind for what you are.
"I'll bet you think this post is about you."
Not sure what you mean by me and my kind but I think you need to get a grip Justin, you're making yourself look very foolish.

Like I said before if that's what you think - fine.
"You and your kind" refers to the same names that crop up time and time again to bash their way through threads with a certain regularity, it's boring.

But you have to admit that the regularity with which we get threads along the lines of "My mate crashed and his helmet saved his life. Anyone who doesn't wear a helmet is mad/should pay for their own medical treatment/should be locked up until they see the error of their ways" is what provides the opportunity.

Which threads have I been bashing through?

Exactly, or a cracked skull, which is why I and many others wear a helmet.
You're getting too emotive Justin. A cycling helmet won't be of much (any?) use in the event of an impact great enough to crack your skull*... so i don't imagine it'll stop you from cracking your skull.

*The skull is like a kind of brain helmet made of bone that evolved over millions of years. It's very effective, it's very hard, and probably far harder than a bit of polystyrene covered in a yogurt pot.

If you're serious about wanting to avoid cracking your skull, then you need something more like this...

No idea, having only been a member on here for some 16 months I haven't seen much of it. But in any case if it's anecdotal evidence and it is as reported, what's wrong with it, you cannot possibly say if it did or didn't.

This one for starters, it's like an old boys (and girls) network!
I do remember when a moderator in another thread told you all to pack it in as it was the same old names, can't remember which one, could probably find it if I could be bothered.
Well your goading certainly got me to "rise" well done, pat yourself on the back - job well done.
At least @benb has the decency to post a coherent and well thought out reply, which gives me some hope there's not a massive gulf between the "them and us" on cyclechat.

Yes but nobody in this country seems to be making decisions.
I did. I decided that the money I would have spent on replacing my helmet would be better spent on yellow beer.

I have two 15ish year old helmets in a cupboard just in case I need to appear to be wearing a helmet eg on a track

Well I hadn't posted in this thread for nearly a month, so not been bashing through much recently.
Just because some people disagree with you does not automatically mean they are in a club, it simply means they share an opinion which differs to yours. You seem to have an issue with this and view it as some form of ganging up on you despite the fact that the overwhelming majority of replies from the over whelming majority of posters to you in this thread (and the idiot one) have been perfectly resonable and measured. You are seeing things which simply are not there and allowing yourself to get het up because somebody, or a group of people, do not agree with you.
I mean come on, goading and trolling, them and us? If you will look a little more closely and in a more considered manner at the replies that you are getting, rather than railing against them because they don't immediately agree with you, you will likely find that the majority of us here wish to reach the same goals, we may just be approaching things from a different direction.

Not so, I have decided that any very marginal benefits to helmet wearing are outweighed by the negative image of cycling as an ordinary everyday activity that results.
Anybody with any authority is what I meant, how long will carry on in limbo land?

Really, @User pretty much calling me a t#at earlier.
The word play, the twisting things, I don't mind people not agreeing with me, I object to people thinking that they are better, cleverer when sometimes they are clearly not. And BTW I am not alone in my views as this thread and the idiot one show.

Why we love the Netherlands, this is how cycling should be, none of the namby pamby health and safety, just folks going about there everyday lives enabled and enhanced by a mode of transport that is clearly shown to pose no danger. Would I let a child of mine do the things the children on the video are doing? Of course! What fun, I did this and more on my bike when I was a youngster as did all my friends. We fell off occasionally, usually to much laughter, I don't remember anyone suffering a head injury.

Although I respect your views @Justinslow, I post these videos to show that cycling is not in the least bit dangerous comparatively speaking. I have not yet received an answer from any pro helmet wearers as to why the Dutch are able to ride in huge numbers, in all weathers without helmets and survive very well. Before you say it is because it is safer in Holland, most bicycle accidents in this country do not involve a third party.

I take it to mean that people in authority have decided there is no convincing evidence to make helmet wearing compulsory. However they can't stop people buying helmets if they want to.
The government are on record as saying the non-wearing majority is the main reason they haven't legislated. I think I linked it in the early pages of this discussion.
