With neck pressed in it does look level.

Just noticed this shim in the neck pocket of my recently bought Chinese made Squire Jazz. It's glued in.
Seems rather odd to be put in at an angle like that and across a corner. Do you think it has moved or was this the intended position?

I had an Ibanez RG which had a piece of sandpaper as a shim. It was bought cheap as a spares or repair project with a significant back bow (the active EMGs alone were worth much more than I paid for it). It was beyond my amateur repair skills and the local guitar tech I took it to said "I’ve had them from the factory with sandpaper shims in, very poor & not ideal. It’s a bit odd they’ve only shimmed one edge though."

The shim was removed and now plays very well although the tech says the truss rod is close to being "maxed out". Even so it has proven to be a bit of a bargain.

Shims are used to correct the neck angle with poor machining although on my 'posh' Corona California Telecaster there is a grubscrew that hits against a plate in the neck to adjust the neck angle. When Bob Dayfield sorted out the neck he found that the adjuster wasn't really needed as the angle of the neck/pocket was 'Cod On' so the grubscrew is just 'snugged up' against the plate. Still a useful feature to have if you want to adjust the neck angle for bottle neck/slide players.

Oh and BTW although this feature first was fitted to the '3 bolt' neck mine is a 4 bolt with a square neck plate not the later slightly angled neck plate with relief to access the 'dusty end' easier although it is a 22 fret neck

Next gig is 14th July, a fair sized one here in town.

Downside is our drummist has knackered his elbow, and while he reckons he'll survive a gig he doesn't want to rehearse right up to the Thurseay before like he normally does.

Fortunately our lead guitarist's lad is no mean drummist himself so he's going to stand in for the other rehearsals, and is champing at the bit to be let loose on a gig with us.

And not this gig, but the one following which is an outdoor one on a proper stage for a villages music festival, we'll be doing Sultans of Swing. And not before blummen time.

Earl Scruggs is really a master. I remember Ricky Scaggs, who is no mean banjo player, saying that after after listening to Earl he wanted to throw his banjo out the window.

Not too many banjo fans on here though.

I feel the same way when i listen to John Mayer's guitar playing, an utter genius guitarist, song writer & live performer, for a bit of banjo where you'd least expect it, how about this. from 2.40 on.

Found this bass for sale locally. It's a Bass Maniacs Tune from Japan so probably a quality instrument. Active preamp. Never heard of this make before. Anybody familiar with it?
From what I've learned these were copied by Ibanez and the design incorporated in their range.
The seller is asking for the equivalent of £340. Worth a punt or too expensive?
