Bridgy you sure want to get a turbo that overreads by 10%? I know it’s second hand, anecdotal evidence but I’d check that out first. Might be nothing but still...

Just think it seems a little counterproductive do replace one over reading turbo for another.

Over reads once you hit 1000w plus. So, when sprinting. other than that looks pretty darned good. Its no bkool Pro!

But I don't think anyone's claiming it over-reads by 10% all the time, rather some anecdotes when at very high power. It is a high end trainer (retail price £999) and I've read in depth reviews saying it's accurate to within +/-2% which is comparable with a kickr. There are claims of problems/innacuracies from people online if you look for them on EVERY trainer, including the Neo and Kickr etc. DC Rainmaker actually mentions in his review of it with regards accuracy between different power measures in sprints:

That’s some really beautiful alignment there (shown above at 10s smoothed). Even zooming in on the sprints, it does really well. Keep in mind that max power in a sprint is often a function of how/when it’s recorded by the head unit. So seeing slight variances between units is 110% normal.

Yeah that all sounds good. I don’t think if Bob had mentioned it only happened when doing over a thousand watts the alarm bells would of been going off so loudly in my head. Also you were sort of asking for people to give you anecdotal evidence too so... ^_^ but it sounds like you’ve done just about as much due diligence as you can! And doing while at work is always a bonus!

How much can you get one for mate? I’m probably going to get a neo unless tacx bring out their spin bike before winter. But it sounds like the hammer is very decent and worth thinking about for sure.

If you do get a turbo that bike has to be added what will you do ? Will there have to be another bike added into the equation - you will you just whack an old venge on it

You're right I was asking for anecdotal evidence - but only positive obviously!! Thanks for your input - I do want to make sure I don't massively regret what I get really!

My logic is I have a load of Tesco Clubcard vouchers which can soon be spent at Evans for 3 times their value. And Evans have the Hammer discounted by 25% at £750 currently. So it would be a relatively small cash outlay for a brand new direct drive trainer of (hopefully) good quality.

I must have missed something but have you parted ways with your wattbike or something?

Edit: Evans also have the Neo at £999 for which the same principle applies of course...

That’s very handy. Our local supermarket is Sainsbury’s. We basically spend thousands of pounds a year there and each Christmas we cash in our tokens for a tin of beans! What it feels like anyways...

The atom hasn’t worked out the way I hoped. I seem to be in a very small minority relative to the happy customers I share a Facebook group with. But I’m ready for a change.

Would you also be able to use the British Cycling 10% discount with that?....would make it an even better deal! :okay:

Paul, it is probably one of the best times to buy a turbo, sales will of slumped due to most folk being outside and not thinking of buying one

I can add my highly scientific test of the Neo to your thinking.

I live very close to Evans main warehouse and they have a Tacx Neo set up to try out.

So I sat on the bike attached to it in my jeans and t shirt. The bike was way undersized for a 6 feet 2 bloke and had the saddle about as low as it could go. And despite that.......... it felt pretty good.

Maybe my review skills need a bit of honing before you look at me as another DC Rainmaker....... but I thought I'd just throw that in!

And I'm probably going to buy one, so expect lots of Zwift and other direct drive related questions to follow.

I should add it was quite a short test as the wife was sat outside in the car.

I don't know if DC Rainmaker's wife affects his testing or not?

For the extra few hundred quid outlay, it's worth thinking about the NEO as you know bods who have the NEO but only unknown internet users on the hammer (although I've also read good reviews of the hammer and it does sound like a decent piece of kit). The NEO is the quietest so if noise is a consideration that could swing it for you?
