I just noticed @bridgy 's stage 6 wc this evening. Phenomenal effort that's going to worry those Danes for sure. Massive w/kg simply superb...
Thanks DP - I felt good today and unlike the last few rides I've done the legs weren't aching at all which was very welcome! Seems like taking the last 3 days off from any cycling at all has done me good! Having said that. I think it was also one of those rides where bkool was being a bit kind to me as well!

AAAC - yes this was still on my "sticky" tyres as I haven't had time to change them yet. But after that ride I think I may have been blaming them unfairly!

Thanks whorty, for the Bingly bong of shame. 5 minutes+!!?

DP I can't imagine riding without a fan. It drops your heart rate by a noticeable amount.
That was a course that was good for me  i did notice that you shot off really fast on that course - of the ghosts I chose, you was way up the road on the first flat section. I was more circumspect, and cruised to the foot of the hill as it looked like a tough one

I've published February's Handicap league, please let me know who can make this Tuesday's 7pm Team Time Trial, and I'll try and get the teams together.

Since a number of people were struggling to make the start last week, I could aim to start warm-up at 7pm and first team starts at 7:10 (as for CG)?

Geoff
I fully intend to be there Geoff - thanks for organising as always

That's interesting. I didn't think a fan would make that much difference apart from the amount I sweat. How noticeable do you think the reduction in hr would be? And will this mean that I can go faster for longer? :hyper:

I still don't have a fan set up, I could have done with one over summer, but now it's a bit cooler I'm OK. Will definitely get one for next summer though as I was dripping at times last year.

Do

Depends what you want them for really. There is little impact on a turbo so any lightweight wheels will do. I had to go for mavic as they could cope with 120kg weights although I am significantly lighter now ^_^.

Do you reckon a fan may help as I don't use one? Will it help improve the longer rides by having a cooling effect? I seem to drink like a fish and quite often have 4 pint glasses lined up...
I will echo what others have said and say definitely get a fan - and a big powerful one! When I couldn't get mine to work the other evening I really noticed how much I overheated and how much that affected my performance after a while

I'll dive into the attic tomorrow and try and locate one although that could be a 2 hour mission itself. That may explain why my times fall away on the longer rides and I feel rather light headed afterwards.

That's interesting kipster, I'm definitely open to advice. So far I've registered but not done a ftp test or looked at specific plans.

How has it improved the tension in your shoulders? What does the plan entail? And roughly how much time a week do you commit to it? Sorry lots of questions...

I've just finished week three of sustained power build, high volume. I can only echo what @kipster and @CXRAndy have said. I've found it excellent. It's hard work, Saturdays two hour threshold ride this week was a real b***h at the end of a hard week. But this week coming is an easy week.

The on screen tips offer great advice, inc things I had never thought of. I went out on the road today for 3hr20m and even on top of the training effort got some pb and second best strava segments without really pushing it.

I also had no shoulder/neck pain after 2hrs for the first time ever

@TurboTommy you should go straight into a build course and see how much time is required for low, medium and high volume and pick one to suit

I'm guessing 10bpm. I'm about to get ready to ride and will do a test. I think I read somewhere it is quite a bit. IMG_20170205_133125.jpg

Or you could encapsulate the rear of the bike including the wheel in an airtight structure, whilst using the vacuum cleaner to reduce the air pressure inside. That will reduce drag...^_^

Edit. You could also use helium in the tyres to reduce weight...

Or get you to blow a lot of hot air into the room to reduce the local air pressure.

Blimey, didn't realize you ride in a force 10! That looks bigger than mine, I think i only have 18 inches.

Do you find you have to switch it off as iy gets too much and do you have it as a direct headwind?
At this time of year I don't switch it on until I've warmed up and get going properly - and I only use it on setting 1 of 3! In the height of summer it's on full power from the off! I switch it on and off with a remote control plug socket adapter

Yes, direct headwind!
