Tales from today's commute....

A surprisingly busy traffic wise commute. It was a bit chilly first thing but it's supposed to warm up nicely and it's quite bright so I expected more folks on bikes. It's was one of those mornings, a bit of faffing, a NE wind against tired legs and every traffic light on red. Not helped by Pottyboro's signal timings. After waiting at the Toucan red for what seemed liked 5mins, I judged a gap in the traffic to cross to the island, then did the same again. 10secs after I did so only then did the lights go green. When I eventually get to the Station there's no traffic which empowered someone to stop in the middle of the road to block it at an angle where you knew he was going to do a u'turn. Then after getting the phone out (tickets) I get stuck behind someone faffing with tickets. There was no way I was getting the early train today.

Four days since last cycle ride and probably the worst ride into work. Being an idiot I decided to do some wood work over the weekend without a mask all lungs feel like the full of flem. Struggled to get into work this morning hoping the afternoon ride will be better couldnt be any worse, Another nice sunny morning whats going on where is the rain?

Am working at a nearby town again, for the first time in just over 5 years, so revived my old bike commute today.

A nice 15 miles that took 72 mins. I wished i was on faster bike.

Got home about 20 mins ago, and quickly came out in a rash on my arms and belly*.

Was in the most lightweight summer top with short sleeves, and it was nippy out, so i'm hoping the rash is just a reaction to cold air, i don't have allergies.. maybe just a hint of hayfever v occasionally.
Will see if it goes down after a shower.

* Who was it that cant stand the other word for belly?
TUMMY!

back on the flat bar road bike, better ride into today, devoid of any traffic or any other cyclists. Couldnt see anything at one point due to the sun never had them before but time to get some sun glasses that re-act with the lights. Where have all the other cyclists gone? Its March and dead on the forums and nobody on the roads over last two days was expecting to be busy like it used to be before pandemic.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
On the old boardman yesterday as the normal commuter sounds like the rear wheel needs the bearings re-greasing, the sun was nice but the wind was cold so i had arm warmers on still.
Coming home the headwind was nasty and cold, it didnt help we had a big overtime call so i was tired and hungry so my energy levels were low .By the time i got home it was close to 1.45 am so i had a quick snack then in the shower i was shivering and my hands and feet were turning white.

Last nights commute was a mare... for others.
I got to Bromley South train station to find that all trains down to the Medway area had been cancelled due to points failure at Rochester.
Absolute carnage at the station.
Oh well... what to do. I did think of cycling the whole way. 28 Lumpy miles, on a folder. Doable but erm... perhaps not.
I know, get the Maidstone line train to West Malling and cycle from there. 10 Miles. BOOM! A nice extra curricular commute for the day in the early evening sunshine.

Chilly ride in today, down to 4C, with a headwind most of the way. A little borderline for summer top & arm warmers, but with forecast of 16 for homeward ride, winter top would be far too warm.

Yeah that's what I'm facing this week. Current solution is shorts t-top and jacket, half gloves. Everything buttoned up tight in the morning until I've warmed up, and jacket in the bag for the afternoon. If only I could do that with the headwind.

Bit of a mixed commute yesterday with a drive to initially drop off the girls to school, then a few miles towards work to park up, unload the bike now sporting a new rigid pannier to roll 7 miles into town. Quick shower and change, then 2 miles cycle out to first work visit, an hour later ride off to get lunch before jumping on the train to get up to my next work visit. Both sites had covered cycle parking which was great to discover. Once I'd finished there I check the train timetable to realise that the next train wasn't for half an hour so decided to ride the 6 miles back to the office for a 330pm Teams meeting before then riding 10 miles back to the car via Halfords to pick up some Autoglym gear, which slotted into the Specialized pannier, clicked the ebike up to max power to tackle the brute of a hill back. Ridiculously more satisfying riding between work visits than driving.

Had a nasty cough since last Friday. Felt ok this morning so thought I'd ride into the office. Big mistake. Halfway there and the cold air felt like broken glass in my lungs. Felt like crap all day and coughing more so I went home at 2.30, it would have been a nice ride as it warm and sunny by then but the damage was done. WFH rest of the week!

Waiting to turn right at a fairly busy crossroads in the city, a BMW driven by a young lass did a left turn into the road I was waiting in and I noticed the sizeable milkshake thingy that she was holding up in her right hand whilst executing the turn - !
