Out early this morning after yet again finding myself awake an hour earlier than necessary..

Roads were OK, pretty sedate waft along the tow path to the city with nothing much to report other than the significant, cold wind. Sausages, city centre, back onto the tow path... just within the "could go a bit further" window upon reaching Iffley lock so I did so as legs felt good and I had the wind at my back.

Little loop past Kennington and through Sandford; back into a bracing headwind towards a suspiciously snow-laden-looking grey sky to arrive at work just on time..

In the end I went for the SKS Raceblade Pro XL which have adjustable rubber straps to attach the mudguards to the seat stays/front forks. Easy to fit and avoids the fiddly area of the brake bridge completely. So far I'm impressed.

Make sure to put some tape or something between the stays and the mounts as they rub over time and will tkae the paint off.

First one in weeks today, after a bit of holiday followed by crap weather and feeling grotty with cold. Lovely sunny morning, glad I wore the photochromic sunglasses. One unnecessary close pass from a Sainsbury's delivery van. Didn't say anything apart from "bit close mate" when he passed. I just drafted him all the way down the hill until the big queue where I left him for dead.

Whattt....

Cyclo Cross bike - the proper name for a gravel bike ! Knobblies - chunky tyres with knobbles. If I stick road tyres (wheels) on it I use it as a winter road bike. Come better weather, I put the knobbles back on and use it off road more (once the bad mud has gone).

So you use the SKS guards with the road tyres only - makes sense at last.

Got to the end of Cattle Market Road this morning at 08.30am, lots of cops about, bridge from Fowlers motorbikes closed, areas taped off with fire engines, ambulances at scene etc. They were getting a rescue boat ready, looks like someone went into the drink....?.

The fire trucks were just pulling up as I arrived at the lights by the old peugot garage about 7:45- I was in the car today as I take my dog into the office on a Tuesday. I can't see anything on the news about it though

Oddly, naff all on the BP website which is odd...

How much cycling is there to do either end of the train journey?

All I'm doing at the moment most times is 4 miles to the train station, the train, and then 0.75miles to the office. Last Friday with it being nice I got off a stop early at night and cycle 18 miles home. But up until Christmas I was doing 4miles to the Station, train then 14miles or more to the office. But I was needing the sleep and a few icy mornings convinced me to shorten things. It's not as nice as the commute to my old office anyway.

Hopefully when the weather picks up and with longer days just around the corner, getting off a stop early will be more appealing again.

So all those on this forum that brag about their highest recorded speed on a bike. Pah!
Get a load of this from my commute last night. I did say the tailwind would help the ride home.

There's a ridiculous strava 'Speed Trap' segment on the local back road. Being a conservative descender I don't think I have clocked in excess of 150mph for it, the KOM IIRC went down at 223mph 🙄
