Kinda regretting just cycling to the Station and getting the train all the way to work. I maybe should have got the train half an hour earlier which stop at all the stops.

M'part guards, I forget the exact model but the got a good review on Road.cc and I got sick of SKS ones always cracking.

Thanks, on closer inspection I'm not sure my bike (Specialized Allez Elite) can use these guards because I can't see any way to connect the guard rod things to the bottom of each fork.

Last night's extended ride was dominated by the stark reminder that my life is entirely at the mercy of dickheads when out on the bike; after some angry smallman nearly took me out as I filtered down the outside of traffic towards a red light (well on my side of the road).

The man-child's enraged face and one hand waving uncontrollably in the air (as he tugged at the wheel of his performance chelsea tractor with the other to avoid crushing me to death) suggested he thought this situation was somehow of my making.

I doubt the situation would have occurred at all had he not been travelling far too fast for the conditions (and probably exceeding the speed limit outright) while cutting the corner to allow him to make it at all (causing him to run wide in my direction on exit).. still, if his 2.5 ton public acknowlegement of his own glaring insecurities had ended my life at least it would have been god's will

This morning was no more fun; if thankfully less terrifying. Out in the pissing rain from the off, my HRM still comprehensively refusing to work after setting this precident yesterday, my Brompton jacket now conspicuously absorbant after a whole 18 months use and two (detergent-free) washes. It wasn't great from the off and now it's really just a wind-stopper.

Time was added to the journey by having to push the bike down the first 300 yards of tow path to minimise the risk of a third puncture from the post-hedge-butchery thorns littering the path.

I did have a few nice little interactions with people although for the most part just got my head down and got on with it.

Had to wait for some muppet to get out of my way on the tow path near town after ringing the bell with increasing frequency from a fair distance did nothing to cause him to deviate from his position right in the centre of the path. In the end I had to stop behind him and issue a stern "excuse me please" which was greeted by a "relax man" as he slowly moved out of the way. My response as to what he might like to do was less pleasant.

Arrived still in the pissing rain, largely soaked to the skin. The office remains festooned with various damp garments and while the weather probably won't be as bad on the way back there's still a 60% chance of light rain forecast; and even if that doesn't transpire chances are I'll still be damp for the duration

Luckily I fared much better than @wafter above, and managed to dodge the majority of the showers. A little bit of light drizzle was the worst. Some very substantial puddles around meaning I really had missed the heavy rain. The latest Proviz jacket holding up nicely, but might be too warm in summer. Did get a very rare 'get on the cyclepath' comment, which I could only hear because I was slowly making my way up the hill, ironically on a road that doesn't have a cyclepath or even a pavement.

This morning frosty but without that icy nip of deep winter, the sunshine making it all lovely again.

Thanks - if I'd got any evidence I might have. As it was, after he stopped in the road (having already passed me so apparently due to a desire for confrontation rather than accident avoidance) I was teeing myself up for a physical altercation. Thankfully this didn't happen as I'd made it to the front of the queue and as the lights changed I looked behind me to see him reluctantly pulling away as traffic accumulated behind him.

Yet another incentive to have a camera on the bike; although realistically I think this would be more trouble / cost than justified by the thankfully few genuinly dangerous / report-worthy incidents I find myself involved in...

Looks beautiful, where's this?

Cheshire. The first photo is crossing the River Bollin in Wilmslow. The second is the view of Shutlingsloe (AKA the "Macclesfield Matterhorn") from the junction of the minor road running past Lamaload reservoir with the main Cat and Fiddle road:

The Lamaload road is beautiful, lonely and remote, and highly recommended, but the double arrow section is *very* steep and also very poorly surfaced so beware descending there.

Was expecting frost this morning but just grey cloud. And a heron so added bonus.

I know I shouldn't complain, it's far better to have a respectful driver than an idiot, but honestly you can just overtake when there's a metre+ of space. I don't need a whole lane and I'd rather you weren't sitting behind me because I want to change lane soon.
