As long as I breathe, I attack.
Yes it's pitch black, sections are either flooded or muddy and it's a biting headwind all the way to work again , at least it is not frosty 🥶

This morning I discovered (*) I’m allowed to
cycle slower. Gosh, why didn’t anybody tell me this before. How refreshing.

I’d long believed I had to sprint between traffic lights and to chase down yellow jacketed-builder types on MTBs.

* legs were sore from gym work.

Surprisingly damp for a dry forecast yesterday - both ways, but better today, just an edge in the wind. Light traffic east riding.

I thought similar as I plowed through yet another flood. At night I got on the train early (I usually get on a couple of stops down the line when most London commuters get off) so I could avoid the floods in the dark (they were bad enough this morning in the light).

No rain forecast so you guessed starting to rain as I left not that I care as again enjoyed low traffic the daily headwind greeted me on the way in.
Sitting in the 20 mile speed zone quite near to work big long que traffic all travelling bunched up and I am the one getting idiot who has a new toy decided it was me who was holding the traffic and decided to honk wouldnt mind I wasnt at the front you get some idiots can only think he had stayed off the shreddedweet this morning either that ore missed a link the evolutionary tree.

Monday was the first bike-commute in nearly three weeks for various reasons including WFH last week due to being poxed. Again.

While it's still lingering in terms of fatigue and respiratory symptoms I was keen to get out of the house, while constantly asking to WFH makes me feel like I'm on the blag and I figured some exercise might do me good.

Buckle up for the pick of all the exciting bits from the week distilled into one adrenaline-fuelled rollercoaster...

Monday, in: Tolerable - chilly with a bit of drizzle but it could have been worse. Few people on the tow path; which after three weeks of my absence looks pretty barren with much of the now sparsely-appounted trees and hedges littering the path. Oddly many cormerants on the canal, and I witnessed one of the parents of the swan family skimming the surface of the water as it took off.

Monday, out: Cold but manageable, not much fun in the dark but better than the car. No rings, detoured to Waitrose and spent £20 on not a lot. Exhausted by the time I got home but felt fantastic for having actually got some bloody exercise at last, and still managed to cook lunch for the rest of the week. Collapsed and - rarely - actually slept through the whole night.

Tuesday, in: Conditions were similar, no cormerants but buoyed by unexpected intimidatingly hot redhead and ponderous lab content

Tuesday, out: Cold, tired and anxiety-fuelled after finding yet another front tube had perished; it thankfully holding enough air to get me home but was flat by the time I'd got the bike out of the car the other end. Bonus points awarded to the dude I saw on the canal piloting a kayak via head-torch light. Lots of nice folks about, as well as a few rodents shooting across the path in front of me.

Wednesday, in: Maybe a shade warmer and certainly drier. Few people again, think I spotted my new favourite dog walker in Wolvercote; stopped and considered saying hello but bottled it  My Smiths-lyrics-worthy self-defeat notwithstanding it was a pleasant ride in - easily the best of the week in terms of conditions - and despite being utterly knackered I think I can feel myself regaining some strength, while my breathing is definitely getting better.

Not especially looking forward to the ride home, but I fully recognise and appreciate the benefit of some much-needed cardio - which, as a cautious fair-weather cyclist I'd not be getting were my hand not forced by circumstance. Feeling much happier and physically less greasy as a result of getting out

This HGV driver can get in the sea.

My worst close passes are getting notices of intended prosecution or even straight to court when reported, so I have confidence that this one will be facing similar.

As well as using my homebrew electric Brompton for days when I'm on the train, I've started chucking it in the back of the van for the days I have to go to another site where I sometimes need to visit a 3rd site 2 miles away. The road between them is usually stiff with cars and, consequently, the Brompton does it in half the time the van can manage. And I can still claim the mileage! It's a bit less than the car, but as the fuel costs for the Brompton are £0 (I charge it off the solar panels on my garage) I appear to be winning at life ^_^

was supposed to last day of commuting on a bike, so little traffic, vats expanses of road with no traffic on them never seen it before. No headwind, slightly cold feet apart from that uneventful traffic free journey in. Might even get back on the bike tomorrow supposed to be a rest day lol.

Assume you woke up and realised it was actually raining outside.
