It was only feel like 0deg C but for me my new heated gloves were a game changer.

Lol, until I was out of town I was so carried away with them I didn't notice I only had my flashed on and not my solid 800 lumen front light 😂

A bit of De ja Vu at night I suspect I am on the exact same train with the taped up 3rd seat in the flip up seats.

Gritters were out at 5pm. Arrived home and it did feel cold.

Rear cassette has been clunking a bit but not on the spare ice wheels. Suspected worn sprockets but it suddenly got worse tonight. Hmm. Got home, hub stripped and freehub feels a little stiff and managed to get it to jump a pawl by hand. Undid freehub, removed seal and dropped a little WD40 in. Instantly better so dropped in some heavy lube. Sorted. Blob of grease on freehub bearings seal on and Hub bearings regreased and assembled. Ready to roll.

Decided after last nights journey home would give it a miss today how I never went over the bonnet last night I will never know we are talking inches. Parked cars either side decides to bomb through at 30 miles an hour mis judged space and swerved out into me to avoid hitting car same road always get problems with. Nice to know my life is worth less than a car getting sick of these idiots

Freehub was perfect this morning, no clunks or slips. I had swapped on the studded wheels last night as it was bitterly cold when fixing the 'warm' wheels, but we'd had a bit of a breeze and cloud and 4c, so on the 'warm' wheels went.

Set off, braked at the end of our road, clunk. The front straddle wire hadn't been seated properly by my 'mechanic' ahem.... (me :surrender::blush:) and I had no front brake. Whoops. Quick stop to fit it properly and I was off.

Cold start this morning took it easy two sets of gloves on had to stop as hands froze up. Not much traffic and to see the sunrise as came in slightly later excellent start to the day.

-4°C this morning. And icy. I opted for bike-train-bike today. The main roads were fine, but most of my route is along Festival Way into Bristol, which doesn't get treated. Whereas the A4 into Brislington (the last 2.7 miles of my commute), does.
Two pairs of gloves and my pogies kept most of the chill off my hands. Feet were cold though as I could only find one wool sock.

Minus 4 and toasty here. Ice not an issue with the tyres.

Sounds very bad. Camera for future moron encounters?

Bit of a near incident in the Roe Green Loop tonight. Pitch black/unlit and didn't see these two pedestrians with their dog until the last minute. Swerved to the side at last minute, slowed down but carried slowly on as they started shouting. No collision but they were calling me an f'ing idiot etc. shouted back 'Sorry' which seemed to wind him up even more and he summoned me to 'come here'. I was away.

My fault. But always try to learn from these things. Over the last couple of weeks I think I have been dipping my lights a bit too much so as not to blind people (get plenty of complaints on that too). Think I have to keep them up and straight ahead. Better than not seeing someone. By the way, I have a pair of 500 lumen lights on the front.

Pedestrians in dark clothes with no lights on an unlit path it needs full beam pointing straight ahead and once I spot them I will slow down and cover the lights mostly with my gloves or dip them.

Roll on the first signs of it staying lighter on the way home in late Jan.

Otherwise a great ride today

A comfortable commute today with the new heated gloves (https://www.ekoi.com/en-gb/autumnwinter-gloves/14676-heated-gloves-ekoi-heat-concept.html) and Lezyne lights (https://ride.lezyne.com/products/mi...yYBfblLXB40xCFXTGjf8vBwJPf9v-lmNI96neTF-1N5ZP)

The sky was impressive for train part just before dawn, although my camera doesn't do it justice.

The lights were certainly catching drivers eyes, even after dawn. I had one driver patiently wait for me to finish up cycling up a steep hill on their side of the road. There's always a lot of badly parked cars in Letchworth GC (actually in the whole of North Herts/ Bedfordshire), including a massive transit like van on this road (https://maps.app.goo.gl/XZZEv7V4EMrJf9da6 ), which narrows the road down to one lane. I had been half up the hill blocked by the van, and she must have pulled out of a side road but she was there waiting when I passed the van

I didn't need to charge the gloves or back lights when I got to office but I have a growing list.

This evening was pretty un-notable. It was pretty fast until I got to Arlesey, then it was a total standstill and the only thing moving was a bike, although I did have to scoot on the footway twice round the jam and parked cars. Towards the far end of Arlesey I saw what the problem was. In addition to the bad parking which always makes it slow (narrowing it down to one lane) there was two large coaches outside the school/community centre. On hindsight when I scooted I should have switched the lights of as I don't think a couple of pedestrian were impressed by them as I was

The only other thing that happened was the train part of the commute this evening was extremely bumpy and actually managed eventually to shake the bike out of the bike rack. I place the drop bar behind the fold up seat which in addition to the straps usually prevents that. This was the first time in circa 4 years its happened. I was glad the train carriage was empty,

Here we go lead up to Christmas break and traffic this morning already dropped off, mega quiet, hardly car on road on my route when left this morning. Really enjoyed the ride in best ride for months. No wombats or cock wombles and what felt like a faster ride as not traffic to contend with. See how much longer Mr light weight can manage to cycle in through December. Not cycled in to work in December for at least a decade.
