A nicer day today - interestingly the light flooding had disappeared at the northern end of the canal; however was worse at the southern end near Iffley by the uni boat houses although I managed to largely avoid it.

What I didn't manage to avoid were two bloody front-wheel punctures, nor being half an hour late for work as a result

Pleasant morning commute until a BMW 3 series nearly ran into the side of me having failed to give way exiting a side road onto the main road I was on. Only me bellowing at the top of my voice seemed to bring me to the driver’s attention and he stopped no more than a metre away from me.

Commute home was no better when a Seat Leon turned right, without indicating, towards the junction I was passing as I rode along the road. I slammed on the brakes but was on a collision course as I struggled to stop quickly and the driver kept coming. Again they only stopped when I roared at them, missing me by inches.

What is wrong with drivers at the moment?

Two for two on wet commutes so far this year with drizzle or light showers both ways on Tuesday & Wednesday. This isn't as bad as it sounds as the heavy rain lasted for almost the whole time I was at work yesterday and a downpour arrived 10 minutes after I got home today.

Groundhog Day. Wet again. Forecast looks like it may not be coming from the Sky in the morning. We'll see.

Boots airing on the dehumidifier currently due to this morning's flood crossings.

First cycle commute of 2024! Ideally would've been yesterday but, y'know, weather.

I've been happily part-car-part-bike commuting into London for some time now (see my other thread) but just before Xmas I discovered Tiles, so now I've got an extra challenge :-). With the quiet-ish new year roads, today I cycled from a different part of South London and filled in three holes in my tile map.

It wasn't all plain pedaling, though. I noticed I had a slow puncture when leaving work, and thought I'd top up using the pumps in the corner of the bike storage. Turns out they don't work, and I ended up worse off than I started. I also got a CO2 inflation kit for Xmas, but could I get it to work? Could I heck. So I was dashing around trying to find a bike shop -- there used to be loads but not any more it seems! Shout out to Balfe's Waterloo who let me use a pump even though they'd already closed shop for the day.

The actual riding itself was great though!

100% wet commutes this year ! On-off rain this morning, but still negotiating a couple of floods. Went slower through the deep one today, definitely over shoe deep in the middle which I was able to coast through.

Back on the commute yesterday. Dark heading out but not so cold. Nice and dry. A lot of debris in the roads due to the previous nights storm. On the way home it was a different matter. Wet, wet, wet.
Rainy commute # 1 for the year.

This morning sunny blue skies, dry, but chilly.
This evenings commute is looking very wet as a massive new rain front comes in from the South.

First day back for me, after a full 2 weeks lazing around (1 short tandem ride was it). Legs felt surprisingly ok even with the extra cheese weight I'm sure I'm carrying.

Smooth easy fast ride! Bike all cleaned and tuned up - briefly, rain and leaf muck on the Loop soon saw it muddy again - makes a difference and only some of the schools are back, so traffic quite light.

Another night of misery
still in the car due to floods and high overtime. usually takes 20 mins in the car and it took nearly an hour yesterday followed by 3 hours overtime last night so 2.30 pm - 2-30 am .
Usual cycle commute still completely closed and now the sewers have gone and the roads are covered in sewage as well as flood water which police are having to stop people wading through .

Fell lucky on the way home, dry roads, but a mucky Floop. The 'bridleway' leading home was a muck fest - the bog of doom at the top isn't passable, but the climb is getting tricky now with the amount of rain. Tyres were caked in mud as was the bottom of my shoes (where I have to take a detour past the 'bog'). Dry today as I'm WFH - typical.

Forecast looking cooler and dryer next week.
