All change in weather again today, its was mild and foggy in the morning and mild again at night but the wind is getting up I think to blow in yet another storm tomorrow! #globalwarming

Edit: expanding on my commute to make it bit more of a 'Tale from today's Commute'

I was up before the roads got too busy for the 4.4mile dash to the station. I like commuting on a Friday the roads and train are quiet. With the strike however the earlier train was cancelled and there was actually another cyclist on board :becool: He was off quite a few stops before me so I invited him to put his bike on the outside.

There wasn't really anything of note on the 11.5miles ride to the office except it was mild and foggy at first and quite a nice day when it burnt off.

This evening I had an endurance workout in my training plan tonight and chose to my commute. It was a very mild 10/9 deg C, so I stopped for a pic/vid of one of the houses in a village (it had been too cold previously).

Lol, in the office my colleagues were talking about a famous cat who likes to sit on the train gates/barriers at the station, and I said in 3 years I hadn’t saw it. Guess who I saw tonight
:joy:

As I said before I like Fridays for commuting I got straight into the bike space and was able to park the bike and sit down (other days that takes quite a few stops).

The train journey was followed by a 4.4mile ride to the house and I was greeted by my Christmas Decoration delivery, so I duly put them up

Good news: the cycle "path" (ie line on the side of the road) had the hedge obstructing it cut, after years making it completely unusable.

Bad news: got a puncture from the hedge clippings.

Good news for me cycle way (or glorified footway) between St'Evenage and Knebworth was finally cleared of the hedge obstructing it.

Other good news for me, I didn't use it :okay:

Stunning sunrise this morning turning into blue skies with a bit of sun thrown in for good measure. Clouded over now. Just hovering over the 10° mark temperature wise. Traffic was also quite light for a change making for a very pleasant pootle into work.

Tree down on the loop line this morning so I grabbed my Silky saw from work and cleared it on my way home.

I carry a small folding hand saw just in case, after a tree went over on the canal one year.

Wow, I shall benefit from your handy work tomorrow. Come home in the pitch black down there now. I would hope with my two 600 lumen lights on full beam I would spot something like that before I hit it.

Last week there stopped for a lad there with his chain come off but had jammed and twisted between the chain ring and the frame. I tried to get it out but couldn't. When he stopped me I was paranoid it was a trap and his mates were going to come out of the bushes so didn't want to dismount off my bike. In the end, I had a go but couldn't help him. Hope he got home alright.

Raining and dark when I left home for the cycle commute. Thankfully not cold. Now I'm at work we have blue skies and sun.

So here's a thing. A good few years back, pre Covid. I used to speak to a fellow cycling commuter (amongst many) I haven'e seen him on the commute for years. The only time I've seen him was when doing weekend rides in the Kent countryside, often bumping into him in random country lanes whilst he was out with his cycling club, shouting out a 'Hi Ian' as he passed. Now the thing that drove me nuts was that I could never remember his name as I'm useless at remembering names.
So, after gawd knows how many years I finally bumped into him on the commute again. Hello Ian he popped up. Hi I said.. erm...Jeff? And he replied. ANDY.... I'll forget by the next time I see him.

Anyhoo
Rainy commute #50 for the year
Same period last year 47 rainy commutes.

Only 600, tisk tisk. 2200 on my big light and not Chinese lumens. Can't use it with other 'users' approaching as it's that bright. I run the dipped beam light at about 600 lumens - it's just enough, but tricky seeing folk

Damp roads, but no rain. Muddy in places. Only two idiot drivers in the small amount of road I use, one pulled out on me, so got a 'what was the point of that, as I passed them in traffic, and another lazy bugger doing a three point turn rather than drive round the block, then roared past me (residential street) at a minimum of double the speed limit.
