England : London Sunday London ride

Can I join in on Sunday? What are the details?
Wellington Arch. Trying for a 09:30 depart, which is often distracted by a posse of soldiers galloping through the arch. Wellington Arch is in the centre of all the traffic whizzing around Hyde Park Corner. Roll out begins with a social drive-by the conveniences within Hyde Park...and followed by a burn up to Buckinghamandeggs Palace, The Mall and into moody London...

Could you furnish me with details of expected distance and pace please?
Ian or Dave will - they are very good at accuracy whereas I tend toward generalisations... Not fast as in chain ganging! Traffic and potholes + sociability (a Sunday commute) play their part. 18 miles at military medium pace? Opportunities via parks etc to extend, speed up and build your ride to suit, after 'pumpkin hour' - which is 1pm. One Sunday, Clive didn't make it back in time and he shrank.

Distance will tend to be about 30 miles if you include back to Hyde Park corner. You'll be very lucky to hit an average speed of 12mph because it's not about speed it's about conversation (Are you proud of me yet 'Teef?)

Always. Besides, we'll all want to talk about your bike. Just for now, most of the frame (and seatpost) should be visible and not obscured by your 'signature' brand of 'merde du jour'.
30 miles. Ah! that's about 18 + a bit then...

I fancy doing a wee bit of sociabicycling for a change. But there's this voice in me that says that 9:30 on a cold January Sunday is very, very early. So if I do manage to come out I may be quite incapable of forming a coherent sentence because my brain hasn't woken up or thawed out yet. Even if I've thawed out and woken up, the above may still apply.

Hey, 'Teef, can't you just be happy for my new bike?

I'm with you on this one, I hate early mornings! Also I am going to make a stand and say I am fed up with the east London, Olympic park bollocks. Will hopefully turn up to day hello but will then pootle round north London and head to work at 1ish. Ally pally anyone?

I am happy for it - just fearful that's all.
Becs - think of the legacy the scenic visits to the Olympic Park will leave embedded in your memory...icons of London in a state of flux, all with the intention of bringing pleasure to millions - in six months, in ten years...forever. (Providing Westfield is still open of course...)
One thing for sure - it aint compulsory! Maybe this thread needs to be split now that it is 'diversifying' - The 'Sunday London Ride 09:30' and the 'Sunday London Ride 11:00 or whatever'?

Ooo - you rebel! However, keep that thought about Ally Pally for next week, as unfortunately I've already said I'm going to Brighton this Sunday.

I am sorry that you think rides that people want to do (and actually quite like) is bollocks.

I would too like to go to Ally Pally. But the thing is that we have to weigh up where we can go with those that have to be home for a certain time. After all, that is what these rides were organised for in the first place. And Ally Pally is a little too far.

So here's a suggestion for you Becs. Organise your own Sunday London ride at a meet, time and destination that suits you. That way you get to choose where you want to go and what time you want to start with those that don't have any time constraints to get back home.

That way people have a choice.
