I've got one for emergencies. Even when we had gas once the electric went neither the hob nor the boiler would ignite with these modern safety requirements, no power and the gas shuts off.
I've got a calor gas heater for just in case we get any power cuts.
As you say the central heating needs a power supply to work.
I can also toast my bread on it to.
With tha and a pint of beer its the living the life of luxury 🤣

Just watching a program on Channel 5 called the big snow of '47.
It's a bit of an eye opener to how bad things can really get

Yeah, we had nothing! Everything is electric! But we had coats, hats, blankets, duvets and three cats!

How about getting a car jump starter and running an 300w inverter? Enough to keep the lights on and at a push power the Gaz boiler.

A power station would do the same if course...
Every family camper really wants one well I do please Santa!🤣🤣🤣

It's been very blustery here today. As I put some recycling out an hour or so ago the plastic bucket I used to carry the bottles and tins outside blew off the top of one of my bins and traveled/tumbled about 30 yards in one movement, such was the strength of the wind!

My wife sneakily took advantage of the crappy weather today by 'persuading' me that it would be a good day to get the Christmas trimmings up as there was no way I would want to go outside for a walk or bike ride. I normally try to leave it to the weekend before Christmas.

Was having a look at Flightradar earlier and a Ryanair flight had a few problems in the wind - a couple of go-arounds and long holding patterns. Eventually they gave up and headed back to Frankfurt

I have recorded that.
I was born Feb 1947 and my Mum told me it was the worst winter in history.

Round Peterborough, the forecast has been pretty much the same yiday and tomorrow circa 35mph winds gusting to 50 and a bit.

Yeah it's windy and quite cold out in it...seen worse.

The forecasts I am looking at it seems worse a bit windier and a lot heavier rain. I wish I had got out on the bike today now when it was only light rain that eventually stopped :-/

Funnily enough there was a documentary on the other night about the big freeze of 63. I'd have been 5 then but don't recall anything about it, too young obviously.
It looked truly brutal...
I was 7 then and it was when my family moved to Coventry. I remember seeing snow drifts 2+ metres deep at the playing fields at the top of the road. The wind had clearly blown the snow across the open sports pitches and piled it up against the perimeter wire link fence.

The centre seems to be near Luxembourg, not far from here, but the landmass and hills are slowing the wind. The rain will hit tomorrow, typically when I have to cycle during work.

Flying Ryanair is a choice, but to have to fly Ryanair and end up where you started seems to be a cruel and unusual punishment.
