You've further to cycle in the new job?

Not really, but for the next weeks I'm covering for a colleague on the morning shift in the shiny new city centre workshop from 05:30, then decamp to the larger workshop on the edge of town at about 10:00.

Tübingen isn't a big town, so it takes about 10 minutes to get from one to the other, but you can bet if it rains it'll be when I'm going from one to the other.

A bit of an anticlimax here in Leeds. Apparently travel disruption due to train cancellations and they cancelled the Christmas market. Leeds Live said some houses in Leeds were without power, but we didn't suffer that. From where I was it seemed relatively normal for this time of year. Heavy rain and a bit blustery. Didn't fancy a bike ride but nothing to get worked up about. I tethered the kids' trampoline down Saturday morning, but I don't think the wind we got was enough to even lift it. Even the 4 windmills zip tied to the supports to deter pigeons are still there. I drove to visit my mother on Saturday afternoon and traffic was heavy but fairly normal for this time of year.

Well I think its passing winds are down to 38mph from a peak of 54mph but it a bit more constantly wet compared to yesterday. I took the decision yesterday to leave a bike on the turbore in my front hall rather than prepping one for a ride and that was probably the right choice as I can't be bothered cleaning a bike.

You get those wind speeds in the fens, even when there’s no storm or warning.

Seems like Tom Voyce, the former England rugby player has drowned after driving through a ford.

Abberwick ford with a foot of water in this clip. Tragedy for his family. There is a footbridge for peds/cyclists.

They have now found a body. Very sad.

I wonder what car he had, either way driving through a ford when the water is high and fast isn’t worth the risk.

I suspect he’s driven that way many times before without issue and just took the gamble.
