I loved SW when the original opened, I saw it six times back in '78. But this one, although bigger, brasher and with mega-FX, I found it a bit too derivative of plot elements from the original. I went into it knowing about two fun cameos though:

The alien who bought Rey's scrap metal was Simon Pegg in a mask.

The Stormtrooper in the Interrogation room scene (that's as far as spoilers go!) is, allegedly, 007 himself - Daniel Craig. It's certainly his voice, if not him in the costume.

The nods to the original trilogy were fun too. But I found it all too familiar, definite sense of Deja Vu . My verdict? - JJ ABrahms love letter to the original.

I do think it is actually best to leave spoilers to some time next week. Although I saw it yesterday the vast majority of people I know are going to watch it Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday or even Thursday.
Well said Sir, Although the fact Kylo Ren is Jar Jar Binks should be shared MTFBWY

Its sounding like his MO but as long as its not as in your face as the nods in into darkness were, Im hopeful. Im watching it tomorrow so I can start using the internet properly again tomorrow.

JJ Abrams farked up Star Trek and he's done the same to Star Wars. Visual feast, unoriginal storyline, I thought Daisy Ridley was good and John Boyega too, though he was better in Attack The Block. Mediocre, like eating curry, you feel empty an hour after.

Reboot, re-imagining, revisited, are all ways of saying that you have totally butchered the original concept beyond any possible recognition

You would need intensive counselling, exit interviews and team-building exercises if you had run away from being a Stormtrooper. They are bred for the job. Indoctrinated, brain washed. You can't just run off if you don't like the job. You'd be a wreck.

I went yesterday with the kids and it wasn't as good as I thought it would be.

Just got back from seeing it, so this is my first visit to this thread for a while.

So..... If you can't think of a plot for a Star Wars sequal, just remake Star Wars.

I feel short changed, don't think I'll bother again.

Just been to see it at Vue in Cardiff. I thought it was excellent. GF thought effects seemed a bit dated but it is the first Star Wars she has seen. I had to explain who characters were before, during and after.

I thought it was great! Yes, it is a bit of a repeat of the formula, but it was a formula that worked.

Hmmm....Unfortunately its a "nope" on this one. Saw it this afternoon at the Metrocentre IMAX - very immersive 3D, but fairly dated FX (especially Bens LS). Same plotline as the original, and I just couldn't find myself engaging with any of the characters. Son really enjoyed it though, so that's a plus I suppose.
