Strictly, the machete misses out episode 1, but seems daft to me. I quite liked 3.

We have tickets for the 29th. We are waiting until it comes on at the arthouse cinema - comfy seats, no popcorn, no 3 gallon jugs of cola and no yapping teenagers.
The Bradford IMAX is very much like that too - no concession type stuff available.Food in the cafe is quite nice though. IMAX had a recent upgrade too, the new vip seats are very comfy and they've taken a full row out so anyone over 5'2" now has legroom.
Well worth the 150 mile round trip for me.
Think they are also showing on the Picturehouse screen, which is generally where the arthouse stuff is shown.

I thought it was rubbish.....total rehash of original story line.
HF was wooden in his acting. So we have as before a couple of young siblings separated with dodgy parenting facing a rehashed death star which they have to land on to stop the shields so that the fighters can fly a narrow channel and destroy the component that makes the death star vulnerable? Even a rehashed Darth Vader FFS! Even a face off over a bridge??? Seems like a cloned story!

I went to see it yesterday. Very good.:okay: Not perfect but better than the prequels and much more in keeping with the feel of the original films.

I wouldn't say no to a second viewing.
Haven't seen the prequels but have seen parts of them, they seem very moody and slow, not a fun feel good film like the originals, glad to say the recent one was in keeping

Where the prequels moody?

7/10

Daisy is very good indeed, fight scenes are excellent on the ground and in space, the look and feel of the film is awesome.

The humour isn't there and the self references are forced and laboured. Ford has a couple of lines that hark back to IV and they don't really make any sense, there is no logical reason for him to say either of them (one about a haircut and one about a trash compactor) and he really looks as though he thinks the whole fandango is beneath him. Plot holes abound (how does Pol get back to the rebel base?) and the peril of the Dark Side attack is a bit rum, the first rebel base scene when they discuss the attack looked to me like it had been cut to bits, either that or the script was so lame there were a couple of scenes that added nothing and didn't move the story along. Carrie looked...odd. Remember Dennis in New Tricks when he had new teeth and his whole face changed? She looked like that.

Yes, the prequels were moody in places but to be honest that's as they they should be to a certain extent, being the story of how a chirpy young lad turns into one of cinemas' most iconic villians. For me the problems are harder to pin down than that but here's my list:

CGI - too much, too obvious, too clunky. In some places it worked wonderfully, in others you can't help feeling that an old fashioned model shot, puppet or actor in a costume would have looked far more realistic.

Dialogue - alright, so it's always been a bit laughable in places ("She's the ship that made the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs") but meesa tink George make a mow mow effort wit dis one. Bringing me neatly to:

Jar Jar Binks - :gun:

Chemistry - It would have been nice if the two main characters had had some in their love affair. It's hard to make out what Padme sees in Anakin the moody, petulant psychopath.

It's not all bad - there are some terrific lightsabre battles, iconic heroes and villians and they expanded on the mythology in a way I liked overall.

Just back from seeing it and I thought it was superb. Real trip back to the style of the originals, good new young cast (Daisy Ridley has a big career ahead of her) plenty of nods to "old" Star Wars moments. Saw it in 3D, which normally I'm not fussed about, but this was the best I've ever seen, looked superb!!
