Hi Pubrunner hope your keeping well. :okay:

You won't regret it. I'm assuming you have a brush .........

Ha ha !

Of course . . . Wait a minute, no I haven't ^_^

I've been taking a look at what's available and I'd certainly appreciate some guidance.

There appear to be different types of badger bristle brushes . . . somewhat confusingly, some 'badger' brushes appear to be made from nylon - they appear to be 'badger' in style only.

So do I go for genuine badger or nylon ?

I have been toying with the idea of DE shaving for a few years (currently electric), you lot have encouraged me to jump in with the following;

Item Sku Qty Subtotal
Vulfix 404 "Grosvenor" Bristle & Badger Hair Shaving Brush VULX-41715 1 £12.50
Proraso Protective Shaving Cream Tube PROO-14235 1 £5.95
DE Razor Blade Sample Pack 1 SHAE-25068 1 £5.95
Edwin Jagger DE89KN14 Safety Razor (Knurled Handle) EDWR-12869 1 £23.00
Razor Blades & Alum Matchstick Set SHAE-55148 1 £0.00
Subtotal £47.40
Delivery & Handling £0.00
Discount (DE Starter Kit Discount) -£7.58
VAT-GB (20%)
£6.79
Tax
£6.79
Grand Total £39.98

I will let you know how I get on. At least it is cheaper than a new bike. I just hope there is no such thing as n+1 in shaving. I will still continue to electric shave most of the time because I am always in a rush, DE will be for special occasions.

....yep, gotta be badger - it acts like a sponge and soaks up loads of water so you get a good lather going. I don't bother with a bowl anymore, just slap it around the chops and lather up. Got 2 sets of razors and brushes, one being more compact for travel, and both sets from Edwin Jagger - quality gear. Tried their soap - quite useless, but nice sandalwood smell. Using Palmolive soap stick now - good lather in no time, and Erasmic one for travel - looks like a giant lipstick thingy.
Blades - Feather - super sharp. Initial outlay seems high, but razor and brush should last a lifetime........

I've got 2 sets - one for travel as well. The travel razor breaks down and goes into a leather wallet that has a space for one of the plastic blade holders and a brush that unscrews and fits into the handle for carrying. Currently using a tube of shaving cream as it's quite compact for travelling with.
I bought a big variety pack of blades over a year ago and have barely made a dent in it.

Oh, but there is, you need a razor and blades for for top lip, one for under your bottom lip, your chin, front of the throat, sides of the throat, chinline, cheeks, and possibly the nape of your neck, plus soap for each area, a few brushes, well over £100 total.

Well I should count myself lucky it is cheaper than bikes then, although it sounds like the blood loss could be similar.

Here for rides.
Feather blades. Merkur Futur (I have a cut throat but I have a hand tremor which means I'll never master it), skin food before and after shaving. Hot hot water and good quality shaving soap applied liberally with a good brush.

And I still had to read Anders Larsen's book to learn how to do it properly.

For my birthday, a few years ago, my wife gave me a Merkur 34G IIRC, it's the gold one.

My first ever shave was with a safety razor, it was my dad's and then I got one for myself. I can't remember when I changed to the disposable razors.... but I'm glad that I'm back
I've gone back to supermarket branded gillette profile replacements. They're dead cheap and you don't cut yourself. The Merkur whatsisname went on eBay for not much less than I paid for it.
I had also tried a DB but found it uncomfortable.

Do you pretend that you're James Bond assembling a sniper rifle when you use it?
