What about the ones in open caskets, surrounded by grieving family?
They are more laid to rest than being kept busy.
What about the ones in open caskets, surrounded by grieving family?
Popularised by the famous sketch involving s unscrupulous pet shop owner and s Norwegian Blue."RIP" is an idiotic term. They're not resting, they're dead. See also 'passed away' or (even worse) 'passed'.
It’s been wandering a bit off topic.
Ok I get some people may want to acknowledge the death of someone who made an impact on their cycling experience but why the myriad of other individuals that frequently crop up in the New Posts feed?
I think that's key, you don't want to offend. My sister is the sort of person who would use "sadly passed away" to anyone outside the close family group. She tries so hard not to "offend" people that actually she sounds weirder than if she's just being herself.
Sorry, but just... no. Deal with the reality. You can still have respect.
Oh, I agree, I meant too much euphemism not that we should use none.
There's that word again. Reality. Not offensive, just a way of wimping out from reality.
It's interesting. I know Irish graveyards are filled with wandering tourists every summer looking for relatives and I've learned over the years that a visit to a small town graveyard can give a really good history of a place. But in some places? Nada. Zip. Zilch.Happens here too; the lease is 5 years and you either have to buy another one or take the grave away. So much for "final resting place".
There are some schools where a small number of pupils are recording every headstone in their area.Fair enough, but then as @Rusty Nails points out who gets to decide when it's too much?
I'll happily call out a misleading euphemism in certain areas. But in relation to a death? No.
There's that word again. Reality.
Since my question was ignored by another poster I'll ask you.
What is reality?

Sometimes I'm in the 'never heard of them camp' and end-up discovering somebody whose oeuvre I may enjoy...
Unless they're a jazz player obviously. 😂
How very dare you....
Would it help if such threads were titled "A tribute to xxx" instead, since that's usually the sentiment being expressed. Why do people feel the need to post RIP threads?
Generally well known, to some, ( but not all), individuals who are effectively strangers. Just seems odd to me. I’d love a forum filter to easily remove such threads from my feed!
Is it just me?
