Mostly I think that's right [although I do have an archaic tendency to not diss the dead. dude]

I put not dissing the dead in the 'respect for the living' category, if you get my meaning....

Sometimes I'm in the 'never heard of them camp' and end-up discovering somebody whose oeuvre I may enjoy...

I remember one where I was genuinely surprised that I had never heard of the person who had died, given the amount of attention their death was causing. I found this interesting and (foolishly) posted as such. People got angry that I was being disrespectful. I won't do that again.

I've forgotten now who they were and never discovered their oeuvre.

What about the ones in open caskets, surrounded by grieving family?

That's a method of cremation in Nepal; there's a temple for this purpose in Kathmandu, alongside the river. The remains are laid on a pile of logs and the eldest living male relative lights the fire.

It isn't a pleasant place; the ashes are pushed into the river and the poorest of the poor scour through the water looking for fillings and jewellery.

It’s been wandering a bit off topic.

Ok I get some people may want to acknowledge the death of someone who made an impact on their cycling experience but why the myriad of other individuals that frequently crop up in the New Posts feed?

Eh, why not just ignore them? I've no interest in Zwift etc, so I ignore that stuff.

I'd say you rather labour your cold, harsh reality schtick - we know you don't care. And the irony of starting a thread about it is surely not lost on you?

Why do papers carry obituaries? Why do we bother with headstones? What point the biographer? History, schmistory.
