Why don't you go and sign a condolence book if that's all you think worth doing in a thread about what's happened. Momentous times need discussion not just a list of fake comments about how it's affected you and how sad you feel. And that is from someone who would rather have the monarchy than not (reserve the right to change if the republicans come up with something better than what produced President Trump).

so start another thread....rather than spoil the R.I.P one, then all you anti-monarchy types can sit over there and spread the bile.

Fill yer boots if you want to discuss the politics around the monarchy here… https://naca.cyclechat.net/

Just ask folks to allow people to express their grief, offer their condolences or show their respect in the way they choose. It could be joining long queue, laying bears and corgi dolls, flowers and cards. Do let people weep for we know not what links them to the Queen or how the Queen has impacted them thru these decades.

Do leave the people to their Queen and respect what they are prepared to do for her and how they do it.

The institution is a whole different matter.

I don't think it's unreasonable or particularly political to say 'blimey, that's a long queue'.

Definitely…a friend mine just spent all night in it (we knew he would go and that’s up to him.l just hope he’s got the day off work today )

The number of the gun carriage team is 98, I believe, of all ranks. It dates back to Queen Victoria's funeral, so not such an ancient tradition. Nevertheless, those involved are likely to view it as a privilege to be chosen.
I believe there were problems with control of the horses at Victoria's funeral, which led to the change.

Come to mention it, on the coffin's journey from the Palace to Westminster, some of the horses (both those pulling the carriage and the ones being ridden singly) did look a bit skittish.

I quite agree and I don't think that's a controversial opinion.

But by the same token people who just want to ignore it all and get on with life should be free to do so.

Footballers branded "despicable" for playing at the wrong time....

In some teams, every time a groundsman's aunt dies, they hold a "testimonial" match with 5 mins of silence and black armbands. Grief is an integral part of football culture.

I thought this was the RIP Queen thread…..all i can see a load of anti-monarchy bile and from the usual subjects too. Its fine if you dont like her, but go and post your hatred on a different thread.

Well you aren't looking very hard at all then, since the VAST majority of posts in this thread are not anti-monarchy.

A thread that just contained a string of "gawd bless yer ma'am" posts would be dull and likely unrepresentative of the feelings of a good proportion of the members. For non-royalists like me, there's an understandable frustration around the blanket sycophancy and giddiness across nearly the entire media spectrum. I've also a genuine concern about the civil and in a few cases legal action taken against those who aren't all in for some grievethink.

The concept of a "constitutional monarchy" is inherently political, and that's before you even consider how the real-world powers granted to the monarch have been exercised. While I understood and supported Shaun's decision to send NACA into the phantom zone, RIP threads for essentially political figures walk a fine line. The sentiments expressed in this thread are overwhelmingly positive or neutral. Given how we've had a week of saccharine and uncritical coverage, I think it can also stand the odd critical or side-eyes post.

There have been a FEW, and even those cannot reasonably be described as either "bile" or "hatred". I've just looked back over the last 6 pages, to see if I was missing something, and only found about 4-5 posts which could be described as anti-monarchy, all by one poster.
