OK, for a bit of balance:
I'm not an ardent royalist, but certainly not a republican by any stretch of the imagination. And I do believe that Queen Elizabeth deserves some sort of respect on her death. However I have a son who has only spent 9 years under her rule, and is a 9-yr-old boy, so doesn't really understand what the kerfuffle is all about.

So I have offered the option of a big day out on our bikes for the BH on Monday. But I don't want it to be disrispectful, or even dismissive of the momentous event going on. So how do we turn our "taking advantage of the quiet roads" day into a celebration of the life and reign of one Elizabeth Windsor?
Why don't you both just enjoy the peace, I'm sure the Queen wouldn't expect anything more of you. :okay:

I'm hoping to get to the funeral on Monday, or within ½ a mile of it.. If you see someone on a Brommie on the edge of the hoards on the tele, it might be me!

Surface travel, via the Royal train, wasn't used. She was flown back.
As far as it's possible to work out, given that the full details of Operation Unicorn weren't in the public domain, it wasn't prescriptive as to the mode of transport but allowed for transfer of the remains to London by either air or surface transport.

Overt changes will likely begin by getting rid of free loaders followed by under performing Royals. Taking of political donations and free gifts, loans etc.
You might be on to something there, we could use a football style transfer system, can you imagine the conversation in number ten?

'Albert II of Monaco is always a solid performer, I reckon we could get him for £10 million if we throw in Harry as well?'

'Yeah but he'll want at least £100000 a week.'

'We can make that back in tea towels alone, and then there's the commemorative plates.'

Or how about an X Factor style show to decide? 😂

You have a short memory. We did have a BH for the Jubilee

What we got at Aldi... and extra day holiday instead of the jubilee BH. I'm taking it next month :okay:
As for the upcoming BH... all UK Aldi stores will be closed on the day of the funeral.

'We', 'you' and many others did :okay:. I didnt, neither did my colleagues, nor the whole factory. Not even a day off in lieu.

A bit late to the thread but anyhoo
RIP and big shoes to fill for the new king but i personally will not grieve or miss the queen as i did not know her and her life was so far removed to mine i cannot even relate to her.

This is how I feel too. It's sad that she died but I cannot relate to her or any of the royal family. I'm not ashamed to say I'm a republican. But she has been around us for most of our lives and do understand those that do feel the need to grieve.
Come the day of funeral, myself and my partner will be travelling up to watch it, for me, because it's history in the making. For my partner, she feel's different about it.

I may just be a small and insignificant figure in the scheme of thing but the sudden announcement of a BH is causing me problems as I am booked to travel on that day and cannot change anything. Really a wasted trip and expense as I cannot get anything done and will have to do an extra trip when the tourist industry allows it.

It might actually be quieter if everyone is involved in watching it?

Announcement at work this morning about what the NHS / hospital are doing about next Mondays Bank Holiday......

Management have no idea what is happening so cannot make an announcement, no planning for this contingency....

Messages from schools to say they are closed though.

Latest thing I've read - and have no reason to doubt - is that due to the bank hol some cremetoria may not be open, with the result that funerals will have to be postponed because of the funeral.
