My commute home from work yesterday was interesting as my route would typically have crossed the Royal Mile. As expected the route was barriered with occasional crossing points. Unfortunately, despite the road being clear when I reached it, the crossing points remained closed so I turned around to head off and work my way round.
Uncertain of what routes I could and couldn’t take, I asked one of the many police officers that were around. I was advised that any route open to pedestrians would be available for me on a bike. In some areas it was less obvious, a road closed sign and no people walking, but the marshals and police were extremely polite and helpful, and I got through with minimal deviation from my usual route.
Overall all it added less that 10 minutes to the normal commute time.
The 1,200m route from Holyrood Palace to St. Giles Cathedral was lined with people, several deep on both sides, but thinned very quickly away from it.
