Typical the country gets a bank holiday. What do we retired pensioners get then someone tell me.

My wife has just said exactly that, as I was reading your post! ;)

Assuming good weather, many cyclists will be out for a ride, enjoying a rare opportunity of QUIET roads whilst the rest of the population watch the funeral?

That's my cycling plan anyway.
I want to watch the funeral too, but I'll watch a recording later so I can skip any boring bits.

An immediate change is going to be to be lot of products carrying a Royal Seal of approval as those which were granted by the Queen are now no longer valid and producers will have to remove them from packaging etc. They do have 2 years however.

Do we know when the bank holiday is going to be yet?

edit: Monday 19th I think. Unfortunately I think I'm going to be unable to avail myself of this BH.

Quite a long time in product lead times tbh

Seems a bit of a shame in two ways that the Queen's body will be flown: denies the faithful a chance to bow to the Royal Train; and a further avoidable increase in carbon footprint.

For some council areas in Scotland September 19th already is a public holiday. It will be interesting to see how that is handled as they would effectively receive one less public holiday compared to the rest of Scotland and, of course, the UK.

Does that mean that, in a 'normal' year, they receive one more Bank Holiday than the rest of Scotland, and the rest of the UK?

Has that been confirmed yet?

It would make sense, I suppose, given how long it must have been since the Royal Train was last used, and the short notice available to put it back in service.

No, public holidays in Scotland, unlike England*, vary by council area. They all get the same amount just on different days. Even school holidays vary across council areas.

From a quick check other areas take the Monday before, or after the 19th.

For those areas who are already scheduled to take the 19th are, in effect, being given one day less than the rest of the UK unless some other day is also offered to them.

*I can’t comment on other parts of the UK as I haven’t lived and worked there so have no knowledge of how they work in terms of public holidays.
