Which proclamation? I could barely hear the public one for the crowd noise and the droopy feathers from the guy's hat blocked his face.
I sat in the comfort of a chair & watched it on the BBC whilst hurling abuse at the sycophant's in the front row, there wasn't a decent human being in the lot of them.

Never mind upside down : a version I saw recently was completely missing the red X, which I think dates it to early 1700s. It felt like I'd stepped through the looking glass, seeing that flag used in all seriousness! Much odder than the greyed out BBC News graphics earlier this week.

Yes. The original flag of the union was just the cross of St George and the cross of St Andrew. I've some satirical political cartoons / pamphlets of the era with it depicted in that way.

The trouble is, you're (possibly) looking in the wrong direction.
People on the whole simply are carrying on, its (ime) in their thoughts, in their discussions, its everywhere, but people are carrying on.
Its the media, as usual, who go full fat OTT.

Personally I have no problem with the amount of it BTW, I don't control it so watch when I want to, don't when I don't....and in that way, do control it.

Maybe, maybe not... I suspect that a goodly number of the decisions to go down this road were made at a level far above the heads of the various broadcasters, and that the media is simply doing what they have been told (advised) to do.

I guess I'm just grumpy that the football has gone *fzzzzzt* and that the coverage of other sports (eg F1) that I was planning my weekend around has been vastly reduced.

So you don't respect them enough to go and the broadcasters reward you with clearer coverage? Seems odd for broadcasters claiming to be loyal to discourage crowds. They shouldn't show it live at all, to boost attendance, like the 3pm football matches. Surely they respect the monarchy as much as football? 😉

That would be the flag of the Kingdom of Great Britain.

Always known it as the Union Jack * have no clue as to the correct way of hanging.

So I'm in London on business all week from 18th-23rd September, planned several weeks ago.

I might be able to get a few meetings with republicans but I wonder what I can do with my free time on Monday? I wonder what might be open such as museums, art galleries etc?

Worst come to the worst I'm guessing the pubs will be open?

Neither do the Flyde Coast Runners, organisers of the Fleetwood Half Marathon. Both flags they were flying, in the finish area, were upside down.

The Jack is in fact the flag flown at the bow of a ship. The Ensign is generally flown aft.
There is a correct way of hanging it and when a Boy Scout many years ago if I was responsible for raising that flag I always made sure it was upside down. Nobody ever noticed.😄
