The Queens death brought out some quite surprising reactions from people. My younger brother ((60), gruff as you like, has been genuinely upset and gushing about her. It seems at odds with his rough tough exterior
I'm surprised by my own reaction, in the last 6 months I've lost my father 97, my great aunt 97 & now the queen who clearly I didn't know, nor have I ever thought of her featuring in my life, but very much like the other 2 I have never had a life without her & I am genuinely sad, grief is a very strange thing.

I've just watched the proclamation & a thought has just stuck my wife & I, that in our 60's we have never known nor seen anything like it, yet our children 37, 34 & our grand children 11 & 7 are likely to see 2 if not 3 more (should they choose to watch).

I did love how he told whoever was just off screen to get rid of the superfluous stuff off the table

It was quite funny him shaking the extra pens as they were in the way ! Then Will had to get them back !

Maybe he's decided that on taking the crown he wants to be known as Reg. You know like how popes take a new name.
Fun fact: there is a monument to King Charles III (among others) in St Peter's in the Vatican.

Paid for by King George III's government as an act of reconciliation of the so-called glorious revolution, after the death of the exiled Stuarts (of whom that uncrowned Charles III was one, aka bonnie Prince Charlie).

Exactly. At least the Vuelta didn’t batter an eyelid & was business as usual just like work.
You mean except for the British, Australian, NZ, Canadian and other riders lining up behind a black-ribboned UK flag for a minute silence and playing of the funeral march at the start of yesterday's Vuelta stage?

This is exactly the point I've been trying to make. There's respect and there's over-the-top.

Some people do want to go the whole hog, but I think a large number don't. Life doesn't just stop.

The trouble is, you're (possibly) looking in the wrong direction.
People on the whole simply are carrying on, its (ime) in their thoughts, in their discussions, its everywhere, but people are carrying on.
Its the media, as usual, who go full fat OTT.

Personally I have no problem with the amount of it BTW, I don't control it so watch when I want to, don't when I don't....and in that way, do control it.

I was asked if I would be going to the UK for the funeral, and I heard some comment on the radio at work, including one reporter explaining that the UK doesn't have a constitution. This was refreshing to hear; people here are generally rather startled at the workings of the UK's political system.

In the the 70s the design was always called the Union Jack. It appeared on socks, underpants and occasionally flags.

Then it became popular to say "Well, actually it's called the Union Flag except on the second Tuesday in May. ... And actually you've got it upside down"
Never mind upside down : a version I saw recently was completely missing the red X, which I think dates it to early 1700s. It felt like I'd stepped through the looking glass, seeing that flag used in all seriousness! Much odder than the greyed out BBC News graphics earlier this week.
