I was going to make a quotation of a certain Monty Python sketch, but it is derogatory of same sex relationship and native australians so didn't

As a matter of interest, for those that use a straight razor how long does it take to get your face nice and clean?

I bought myself one of those straight razors that use disposable blades off eBay, mainly due to the cost of mach 3 blades that only seem to last about four shaves.

To do a nice neat job without butchering myself seems to take over twenty minutes, does feel nice when I'm done though.

Ha. Flippin' ha. With a captial 'H'. Serves me right.

Cut my nose, yes my nose, shaving, when dive bombed by a fly. Stypic power stings like flip. An an infoerior blade would have bounced off. A Feather. Scalpel-like it cut right through.

There is an informative (and very long) post about all things shaving here...

Its a car detailing forum (Yup, a forum for car cleaning - who woulda thunk that?). If you look carefully you might be able to spot my words of wisdom in there somewhere.

I hated shaving, even the expensive Gillette stuff felt like dragging a fine cheese grater over my face.

Bought a Merkur 34c HD, a nice badger hair brush and some Taylors sandalwood shaving cream. Love it now  Can get a ridiculously close shave and it's comfortable. Pretty quick too. Can be done in less than 10 mins but I usually take my time as it's actually a relaxing experience now.

7p per blade verses £20 for 7. . . no contest!

Also a fan of the Alum Block. Can sting a bit though ;)

Never expected to see a link to DW on here! I have to confess I have a user account on that forum too

@Edwards80 Have you tried taking the Merkur to your legs yet?

No! I'm sure it can't be far off though with all the peer pressure from you and other fellow wheelers

Mrs has used it on her legs (much to my displeasure) and it did a fine job.

@Edwards80 Si been calling you a wookie?

I might buy one, sick of paying for razor heads for a Gillette, they go blunt super quick, cut me to shreds and my face (and legs) keep coming up in a shaving rash and it stings like hell when I sweat! If I am going to be brutalised, I may as well do it one the cheap!

Si . . .Ant . . . Andy . . . Ian . . . All bullying. I got called out for wearing long socks at the track too so I can't even cover up ;)

Go for it. Got my bits and bobs from here - http://www.shaving-shack.com/

No more shaving rash/stinging for me at least. Just be patient when learning the correct technique!

Gents,

Looking at the bluebeards revenge privateer double edge razor gift set at £109.99 which looks great with a stand for the razor and bristle brush, OR should i buy seperates like the Merkur 34C razor + (brush/shaving cream)

There are so many choices, that i'm thinking the blue beard full set would be better

Anyone have either of those two or recommend another???

I took your advice and bought the Merkhur 34c . haven't seen a bad review yet. A decent brush, some shaving cream (can't believe how cheap it is compared to Gillette shaving gel) , should arrive before the weekend, by which time I will resemble a warewolf.

Excellent choice, just work through different blades until you find what suits you best. You can get sampler packs, I prefer Astra or Derbyshire but it is very personal.
