Well, write it down boy ......
Not read the whole thread so apologies if this has been covered. Cartridge blades last a lot longer if after every shave you run it backwards up your forearm a few times (I do 20). The reason is that a razor sharp edge, when it goes blunt, has only rolled over the edge of the blade and using your forearm as a strop bends back the roll over. Hope this is clear!
Many people think that to get a razor sharp edge you need to remove metal, but once you've got one, you don't.

In exciting shaving news I'm back on the Kai blades and my chin is now as smooth as a middle aged Lothario on a Saturday night down Cinderella's.

Are they as good as made out to be. I've tried all sorts including Feather blades and while some blades are definitely better, and last longer I find Astra last ages and keep their edge.

I've been using Shark blades for a few months since that's what they have in the local zero waste shop, but switching back to Kai this morning the difference was like night and day. They slid through two days of growth without me even really noticing and left a really smooth, close finish. I'd certainly recommend giving them a go.

Astra I found irritated my skin. I haven't tried Feather although there is a pack in the house somewhere, I just can't find it. I can't recall how long I was getting out of the Kais last time I was using them but I usually change the blade after a week or so whatever. I'll see how this one feels as it goes on.

Might be no shaving for me for a couple of days anyway as I'm spending the weekend fixing the bathroom...

I bought an electric a few months ago. Wooo. What have I been doing all my life, faffing around buying blades that don't fit the handle and handles that you can't get blades for. I don't understand why I never got one before.

Good if it works for you but I never found an electric that gave a decent shave.

Me neither .

Blimey, I didn't realise it was something people had strong opinions about.

For years I used Gillette 2 blade thingies but Boots stopped doing them and I ended up with some other thing, with about 17 blades or something, the refills for which cost a fortune. So expensive, that they are now locked to the shelf, making the process even more infuriating. Eventually I bought a load of 2 blade ones from Amazon for a suspiciously low price. They were shite, naturally. So now I had a box of hundreds of blunt blades. That was the tipping point. I got a Braun series 7. What a revelation. No more fecking little blades that don't fit. No more puzzling over the array of expensive tat in Boots. And another thing, have you noticed how narrow the aisles are in Boots? People are always trying to squeeze past while you're puzzling over whether you want a Gillette Badgernadger (£17 for three) or Wilkinson Stinker 29 (£46 ea). They can feck off now. Narrow-aisled bastards.

Hmmm. I seem to have strong opinions on the matter. I never realised.

I'd love to justify it on the grounds of single use plastic reduction but I doubt that the sums add up.

Going into Boots was your first mistake, you're not going to get quality shaving kit there. I don't think many people on this thread are extolling the virtues of cartridge razors. DE blades are a standard size, cheap, and virtually plastic free.

If electric works for you then fair enough, I tried it and didn't like it at all.
