Anyone use an alum block?

I've just got an Edwin Jagger one, it's almost like splashing aftershave straight on. ^_^

I used to but have got out of the habit.

Just be aware that an alum block is one of the most fragile things known to humankind. Don't drop it.

I've just been to Tescos and realised why I let my stock of razors run down to nothing: Tesco have stopped selling BIC disposables.

It's small enough to start with without doing that, when I ordered it I saw the photo and imagined something similar to a bar of soap, but when it arrived it's more like the size of a matchbox. 😂

I used an alum stick a lot when I first started with d/e blades. Soon learnt I was pressing too hard with the razor, causing claret escape.

Indeed let the weight of the razor do the work. different from inferior cartridge razors where you need to apply some pressure.

Partner bought me a lovely cut throat razor as I was looking at them.Love the idea of them and they give you a really close shave.
But ....9 times out of ten I'm rushing when shaving, late to work or late to get ready and the two don't mix.End up leaving the house like I've been in a slasher film.So I save it for when I've time on my hands,I use cheap disposables as there's another three people in my house that end up using them ! Odd that when I ask all three blame the cat.

That is why I bought a double edge razor, to intimidate them into using their own razors!

although a DE, particularly a closed comb one is dead easy to use with minimal risk of cuts and nicks, i tink thats why the were also called a safety razor, in comparison to a cut throat.
