My question is about the value of gold at current scrap prices, bearing in mind those prices change hourly though not too rapidly. If you were to buy an 18 carat gold item weighing 19.02 grams for £1,099 and the price of 18 carat scrap gold as I post is £34.59, would it be better to buy the 18 carat gold item rather than a 9 carat gold item weighing 54.44 grams for £1,999.00 with the current price of 9 carat scrap gold at £17.08? 🤔 I'm 99 percent sure 18 carat would give a better scrap price, but I would like to know the difference percentage etc wise. I think @Alex321 might know the answer as he seems quite clued up about these things. :okay:

I'd use a calculator for that. I'm sure you can do that yourself

It isn't really quite right. It is a much more sibilant sound than "th". You say it with the tongue behind the teeth, rather than over them.

But that sound doesn't really exist in English, which makes it difficult to write down an equivalent.

"Dd" is actually closer to the soft "th" (as in hythe rather than in path)

Yes quite hard to describe to a non speaker.

Maybe the best way to phoneticise it would be "thl" as in Thlangothlen.

When it is just something you say daily you take it for granted!

I'd say that whatever you pay for a 'new' gold item and whatever the carat of that item is, if you sell it back to the seller or anyone who buys gold to melt down, you'll get roughly 50 percent of what you paid for it. Gold is highly priced at the moment, so selling for scrap will give you a fair price, but then buying it means you're paying more, so the only 'winners' really are those who buy and sell gold in large amounts, holding onto it when it's a 'low' price and selling it when it commands a high price. Maybe I'm over thinking this as all I want is a gold bracelet around the £1000 price. Yes, I know that if I pay £1000 for one, then in reality it'll only be worth half that amount should I wish to sell it for scrap, but I could get around 75% of what I paid for it if I were to sell it to a buyer who wants the bracelet, not just the gold. I've heard of dealers offering up to 50% to sellers of gold jewelry, saying the gold in that jewelry is only good to them for melting down, then that item appears in their shop window for sale at almost the price the original seller paid for it when new. For example, the one who bought it for £1000 when new, then sold it as scrap for £500 then sees it in the 'scrap' dealer's window for £900. Then of course if you buy say a 14 carat bracelet for £750 you could tell folk it's an 18 carat bracelet that cost you £1000. No one would know it was 'only' 14 carat unless they asked to look at the hallmark and they just happen to have one of those magnifying jewelers eye pieces. :okay:

Is this a wind-up? I need to know before I visit Llanelli ...

Why on earth would you want to go there?

All this fuss about putting asylum seekers at that Stradey Park hotel, for what ?

One look at the place and they'll be demading to be put on that barge instead.

To go cycling?

I've been on a couple of rides over there, and much enjoyed them. Though admittedly only the last 5 miles or so was actually Llanelli, and that was along the sea front.

I used to wonder who Marky Mark was and what he did for a living

Then he changed his name to Mark Wahlberg and now I wonder how he does anything for a living

Watched an interview with an American lady Doctor, highly qualified in several medical disciplines who was asked the " does size matter " question. She said that physiologically only the first four inches of the vagina has has the nerve endings that correlate with stimulation ( though there's the psychological aspect that has a much greater impact )
